  • Great bass with big sound…Don’t be fooled by the light weight.

I was inspired to buy this bass by Golden Earring basset, Rinus Gerritsen. I did some research on this current bass that is made in Korea. The quality surpasses the original 1958 model. It now has a real truss rod in the neck, instead of two steel support rods, that held the neck at perfect bow angle. The body materials are better quality than the original. The neck is maple with a pau ferro fretboard. (Which is slighter harder than rosewood, but provides very similar tonal qualities; with slightly better frequency response and attack. These basses have excellent articulation. The rosewood bridge offers up very good intonation and a woody warmth to notes. The steel nut will probably last forever and is probably credited for the articulation. The only negative point, is the tone control; which is more like an on/off switch. When rotated fully counter clockwise the sound is bass, but not boosted. The regular sound is strong and well balanced. Danelectro used the very same full range “lipstick case” pickups on all of their string instruments that use this pickup style. I don’t know of any other guitar companies that do that. Overall, I’d rate this bass a strong 9. I would prefer traditional tone controls, but can live with these.
