I have played many instruments for many years. This bass was purchased for tracking in my studio. When it arrived, it was packaged extremely well and protected. After removing it from packaging and wiping it down, the first thought was that we would have to set it up. But after a few people played it, we found it was actually setup very well from the factory. Also, traditionally the first impulse in the studio is to run it through Amplitube to dial in some tone. You actually don't HAVE to, it has really pretty good tone right right out of the box. Distinct tones from finger played to picked. For the price, I don't see how you could go wrong with this 5 string, the value is incredible.

I bought this bass for my son who has begun Orchestra in 6th grade. He loves it. I would highly recommend this bass as a beginning instrument for a student player -- it should be able to take your child through high school. Stays in tune and looks very professional. It is modeled on Jaco's Bass of Doom -- looks of an instrument can inspire you play, and this bass looks good. Make sure you have a professional sounding amp before deciding to upgrade the instrument -- I have professional grade amps and this bass holds up well against my top level basses.

This is an excellent value reproduction of a much higher-end jazz fretless from Fender, and has a big advantage in using an ebony-like fretboard vs. rosewood or something else. Pickups are excellent and sound truly vintage. I had hoped to buy the Tony Franklin edition but it sold out from under me so I bought this as a placeholder. I will NOT be keeping it, as the ebonol surface doesn't feel as nice as the true ebony on my upright bass and as my upright -- though not a full-scale version -- just sounds richer, warmer, and better for everything that I threw at it yesterday. I've owned many fretless bass guitars over the years, and I think I just prefer upright bass in every case. So that's a personal preference. As fretless bass guitars go though, the only one I've played that I find superior is the elusive Tony Franklin model, which costs six times as much! Thus, this cheap Squier model is an EXCELLENT way to find out if fretless bass guitar is for you or not, and may well end up being a "keeper" if you can get on with its slick ftretboard and somewhat dark sound.Read full review
First let me say the bass I bought was not fretless like the title says .. It's a fretted Squire J bass, and its an excellent little bass for the price w no tax & free shipping / I bought the bass to be a project which means experimenting with pickups, changing necks, bridges, etc… but after playing the bass for a week here at home, I was surprised how good it sounds stock, I even recorded with it on a session as is … The producer loved the sound as well / My only dislike is the C Neck .. I like a thinner neck on my Jazz basses .. Fender has been making this style neck for decades and should modernize this part of the bass making process .. I rate the Squire bass 5 stars because of the price for what you get .. I don't see how Fender makes any money at all on these ? I'm totally impressed /Read full review
We helped our grandson buy this Fender Squier 5-String Bass. He is learning to play and enjoys his new instrument. It gives him confidence to know that he has a great, well-made tool to begin his journey into music! He tried several other units and says that the Squier has superior feel and balance, plus its beautiful tone! He is very happy with it!

I bought this one to save a couple of bucks. It was pretty much as described, but I did find one high fret so I needed to re level the frets. The Pickups are great but needed to be adjusted to Fender Specs. The Fender Strings are terrible. I replaced them with Roto-Sound 77 flat wound. Four stars because of the high fret. Otherwise really nice bass for the money.

I have only had a few basses in my time being I'm really a guitarist but I do play bass also. This bass has very nice tone and effects, I tried it out on a small Vox mini3 portable amp and I was impressed with the way it sounded. I really do need a good bass amp so that I can get the true tone and sound of this bass. I have had my eye on this particular one for awhile. I have seen some demos on YouTube and was impressed with the sound and quality. So I finally decided to buy it and I'm glad I did. Even if I don't ever use it to gig, I will enjoy playing it at home and jamming with some tunes.

I bought a Squire bullit Jazz Bass, and had it set up with a new set of round wound strings. It s fairly low, but no fret buzz, and it plays like the real McCoy. My next step is to fit some Seymour Duncan pick ups, then it will sound Out of this World. It has a reasonable sound with the current pick ups, but the S/Ds.will make it sound so much better. It doesn t have the weight of a Fender Jazz Bass, but I find that an advantage. In all I find it a good, fast bass. Easy to play, and it does what I want it to. If you re lookng to buy one, I say "Do It" and Enjoy the experience. Cheers.
I purchased this bass because there has been so much written about it. Reviewers constantly hyped on its classic Jaco look, feel and sound so I had to try it for my self. Everybody was right; Squier hit the mark with this one. A bass’s looks are not as important to me as it’s feel and tone but if this bass was a girl at a party guys wouldn’t even talk to her, they would be too intimidated. The feel of this bass is of coarse you normal Fender “you ether loveum or hateum. One thing I can say is that it’s very light, unlike the ones from the 60s and 70s. The tone is like butter “butta” on hot toast. This bass can go from upright to Jaco in 5.4 seconds with plenty of mwah to go around. The only criticism I have is the pickup could be a little hotter but that could take away from the classic tone.Read full review
"Crafted in Indonesia" is a good thing. For $230 plus shipping I'm amazed the the playability and tone of this fretless Jazz bass. It needed to be setup, but most every bass, especially in this price range, does. The finish is far above my expectation, as well. It's a keeper (until I find a 5 string as nice.)
