Although many quad core CPU's come clocked at much faster speeds & FSB ratings than this one, this processor is 'unlocked' which means it can easily be overclocked with a motherboard that has CPU tweaking features. After doing a little research before buying it, I found that most people got it to run at speeds of 3.8GHz on averge and some up to 4.0GHz. Some will agrue that, oh you're going to fry the chip by doing that or you need to spend the time and money to water cool. Well not with this processor. I'm running it at 3.83GHz,air cooled with a thermal take HFS and heat pipes (so obviously not the stock intel HSF) and even under a full load I'm barely hitting 46 degrees C. I've run some benchmarks using Everest Pro which compares this CPU against several AMD Phenoms, quad & 8 core Xeons, Core i5/i7, and even some of the Quad 2 Extremes, and this CPU holds it's own. Overclocked, it's faster than an 8 core 1.8GHz Xeon system, faster than ANY of the AMD quads, faster than several of the core2 Extremes that cost 2-3 times or more than what this CPU sells for, and it even holds it own against a 3.2GHz i5 and even some of the i7's that cost way more than this CPU. Also another benifit of running this chip overclocked is the front side bus speed is no longer running at the stock 1333GHz, but 1800MHz in my case. The only thing I don't like about this CPU, and for me it wasn't a big deal after a quick BIOS update on my EVGA 750i SLI FTW, is the fact that the multiplier is not a whole number. So in the case of the Q9505, it's multiplier is 8.5. some MB's don't support that type of multiplier, but most of the newer socket 775's with an Intel chipset (P35/45, X38/X48, and NForce 750i/780i/790i) should support this CPU. So all in all, for the cost of a very fast Core 2 duo I'm getting performance levels of a Core 2 Extreme or a much more exspensive C2Q. the QX6800 for example (2.93GHz extreme quad core and a great processor) sells on pricewatch for $500 and this thing blows it away clocked at 3.83GHz, plus I only paid $160 for it!Read full review
I bought the Intel Core 2 Quad Q9505 for my home build project for my first quad core pc. I had a delima about the expense difference between the Q9505 and the Q9550 on Ebay. So, I built my pc and a friend had a Q9550 I borrowed to test on my pc. Then I read a review between these two processors and concluded for the price difference the Q9505 is the best choice. I have no regrets. This cpu is fast and smooth operating and is awesome with multiple applications running. For a cost range of $65 to $95 on Ebay, it is a very wise purchase in my opinion.
LGA 775 CPUs are pretty dated, but a little overclock on the quad core with 4gb ram is enough for fortnite ;-)
