These shocks are listed on multiple sites as being replacements for a 77 Toyota pickup. While they are same length, the larger diameter requires that the lower control arm be dropped and coil spring be removed in order to install. OE struts simply drop out through the lower control arm and new ones slide up, about a 2 minute job, but these larger tubes are too big to fit through the control arms' holes.
However, after all the unexpected work, I'm still glad I went with these struts. It gave me a chance to do a thorough inspection and clean/repaint.
