Goodyear/Continental Gatorback MEXICAN production line quality control is seriously lacking
I bought a Goodyear Gatorback belt a few weeks ago and installed it last week in my car. It was the correct belt, tensioned to factory specs (I have a tension guage) and everything seemed to go well, with no squeaks or anything. The second time I drove the car the belt snapped, with less than 40 miles on it. I have the broken belt in front of me and there is no oil on it, no signs at all of wear or slippage, stretching, etc.
I bought this because I thought it was a genuine Goodyear belt, made in the USA.. Come to find out, Goodyear has subbed out the manufacture of these belts to Continental and these "premium belts" are made in Mexico.
I'd urge people to strongly consider the Gates belts, or even the Dayco belts.
