Must have item when doing rear drum brake service on any Jeep Cherokee XJ.
You need to have this particular Rear Drum Brake Hardware Kit (Carlson H2309), when ever you do any type of service to your rear drum brakes. I used this on 2000 Jeep Cherokee (XJ) 4WD Automatic transmission. I was doing a rear Wheel Cylinder swap and decided to buy this kit. I am glad that I did, it saved me a lot of headaches and time. When I opened up the rear I noticed a few springs were broken and others were not the same length, especially when I placed them next to the new parts. The old parts on the drum were being held in place, but they were very loose and flimsy, time and were had taken its toll on the original parts. Luckily, i had ordered this kit to be on the safe side , thinking I was only going to use a few parts, but I ended up using all the new parts for the drum brakes. I did have to go buy brakes shoes at the local parts store but they did not have a full drum brake hardware kit with all the parts that I needed. This Carlson kit had all that I needed. So get this kit, you will need it. It has general parts and side specific parts that only go either left or right side. They are labeled in a bag so you do not make a mistake.
