Nice Part
I have a 2004 Chevy Avalanche 1500. It was making a knocking noise going over bumps and front end parts were fine. Gambled on the lower bearing and the intermediate shaft being the problem per plenty of internet research. It paid off. I used silicone grease on tube shaft and steering shaft to get the column bearing on. It takes patience to maneuver in as the new part is tight. Once both parts are in, no more noise. Truck is perfect. I like this Dorman replacement and the Dorman intermediate shaft replacement. They seem redesigned to prevent this from happening again. Final tip is to use the GM steering lock tool during this process if you do not have locking steering. It is $20 on Ebay. Otherwise, if the wheel turns while the shaft is disconnected, I heard there is a coil in the column that you could damage. Not good.

Excellent OEM replacement part
I had my doubts about my OEM part being bad. There was no slack in the part and it appeared to be functioning properly, but the noise it made sounded like the front end of my truck was loose. This new part solved the problem immediately and there are no more noises. I ended up purchasing one for my dad's truck as well.

Correct sequence, access, success
Debur outer lower end of new shaft with fine file if required. Turn the steering wheel slightly to face the nut under dash down. LOCK steering wheel in place with seat belt NEVER remove until new shaft is in place. Remove all five fastners boot included and replace with boot on new shaft. install boot on dash before the upper end is installed. install all five fasteners REMEMBER never remove seat belt without shaft in place on BOTH ends. ( clock spring damage)

Dorman part
This part is a Dorman product and Dorman is a very good brand for auto parts. I replaced my lower and upper steering shafts in my 2004 Chevrolet Silveradoo 1500 extended cab and this is the exact part you need for the upper shaft. Auto parts stores want twice as much if not more for this same exact product. Order this product if you are struggling to find a good price for Dorman Product number 425-176.

Bearing not for H2
The plastic bearing is not compatible with Hummer H2 ,steering playbstill there, replacing the upper shaft didn't resolve my problem ..so no need to buy the two parts

Works. Fixed the dreaded "steering clunk".
Be sure to get the steering shaft bearing as well. As long as you have the thing apart, might as well replace that too. It's a pain in the rear end, but worth it. Use lots of silicone lube on reassembly!
