This is an older CPU, having been surpassed by the various generations of i3,i5, and i7 Intel CPU's. Formerly a OEM installed CPU, it is used now as either an upgrade (as I used it), or as a replacement for an identical CPU that, for some reason, has failed. As a replacement, depending upon the clock speed being used, and the socket being used, this CPU can produce from good to spectacular improvement. Heat generation is the greatest among CPU's of this class, therefore caution must be exercised to guarantee adequate cooling or any improvement gained will be lost through "overcooking." Real speed comes from upgrading RAM and the type of operating system employed. Windows 8.1 Pro, and Windows 10 Professional are modestly improved by this CPU upgrade. Linux (especially Debian based distros, even though Red Hat and Fedora-based distros show improved performance) shows the greatest use of this CPU as a system upgrade. Why 4 stars instead of 5? This is an obsolete upgrade, and while it performs well in some cases, it is not the inexpensive alternative upgrade to the speed of the i3, i5, i7's that might be expected.Read full review

The CPU I ordered is what was delivered (Q6700), but when I installed it and tested it with the Intel Processor Identification Utility, it showed that only half of the level 2 cache is working. It has a total of 8Mb of level 2 cache, but with only half working its 4Mb of level 2 cache. It would cost me more by postage to send it back and receive a replacement, so I've decided to just grin & bear it.

After watching a YouTube video and doing a bit of research, I decided that this would work in my Optiplex 745 SFF and my 745 MT. It did. Installation was easy in both 745's and the video was helpful. All I had to do was remove the heat sync, take out the old and put this one in. Then I dabbed on some paste and re-assembled. The computer started with no problems and just went right back to work at increased speed.

This cpu is still easily capable of 1080p gaming on high settings idk how but it is😂 I really recommend it over the popular q6700 because it takes up the same aount of power and has a faster core clock. Thanks

I installed the Q6700 to replace the 1.86 GHz stock CPU and it runs cooler than the Core 2 Duo E6300 that I removed.

Cheap quad core processor arrived in a reasonable amount of time. Good for web browsing and emulating.

I wish I hadn't waited so long to do this with my now 11 year old computer. The upgrade took less than 10 minutes and I am happy with the results. Considering that I paid $16.50 upgrade from a dual core to a quad core, I think it is an excellent value!

hard to find these days, yet the performance it offers rejuvenates my old s775 system... you add an ssd and do not need to spend a fortune for a skylake system. Performs well also for light gaming. Value for money! and one 'click' better than the Q6600.
