Having compared the iWay 250c to a TomTom, a Garmin, a Magellan and a couple of other comparably priced units, I found this little GPS to be the most for the money. It is ready to go right out of the box with mapping data already installed on the 2gig SD card included. The most striking feature of the iWay line of GPS's is the mapping display. It's like looking at a real map and not like looking at a crayon drawing of the streets and roads. It also functions as a detailed street map by being able to instantly 'drag' or 'zoom' the map at any point during use. You'll also see detailed water ways, mountain peak names, city and national forest boundaries, historical interests and even old abandon mining sites as you drive along your journey. I've seen all kinds of stuff I never knew about until I saw it on my iWay 250c. It also has a map of the whole world on there! It's not fully detailed world wide but it does show major routes in many different countries. I did not expect this in a "bottom of the line" model. A great feature of the iWay 250c is the customizable interface. I'm a truck driver so I changed my interface to show me how many miles driven and the hours it took on one side of the display and miles left to go with the hours needed on the other side of the screen. You just can't do that with other systems at this price! You can also display your speed, your destination, your next turn and turning arrow, total mileage, a clock, elevation, ...anything the GPS will track can be put on the screen if you want it there. The mapping data for this device is typically a few years old but it still beats other brands. For instance, my Mom's new TomTom did not have my sister's street or address listed so she paid for a 70+ dollar map update... only to find that the address and surrounding streets were still not in there after the update! I searched it on my iWay 250c and WALLAH it did what the new TomTom did not. However, consider a 500c or 600c iWay if you want it to double as an MP3 player. It doesn't have an FM transmitter and it will not hold many songs. The 2 gig card does not have much storage space left for extra media. I mean if you want to put 1 or 2 albums at a time on there it'd be ok but don't expect to get much more than that. You can also put pictures on there but the same applies as music. If these are important to you then, look at some of the higher model iways with large internal hard-drives. I also don't like the pink line that leads the way on the map. Why pink? Why not green or yellow or something? I think all of the iWays have that. It also will not show low clearance bridges or restricted routes for trucks. Does not display road speed limits. Overall, the iWay is a great system for the price you pay. Keep in mind that the 250c model seems to be being phased out and I'm not sure that they even make them anymore. This can be important for manufacture supports. They do list a firmware update and all the instruction manuals on the Lowrance website but I don't think you can even purchase updated maps anymore. I've had mine for over 3 years now and I just love it! I'd still buy another one today if mine went out on me.Read full review
We have had the product for 5 weeks now works great, our favorite part is the simple button that switches from 3D-view to north up, dislike the fact that if I remove the memory chip the map is gone. We bought this because we had one before. I didn't want to leave it in the car so I put it in my purse, this is not a good idea, the screen display was destroyed in a short time of being at the store, very delicate electronics. also disappointed that Ebay took away the positive review that the seller gave me and this product is also obsolete.
Packs a ton of features into a little space and does a pretty good job at it. System works great, though the maps are a little outdated (mine came with year 2007 versions), but they can be updated later if you are willing to pay the price. Overall, the system has a very intuitive menu system with the most used features easily accessible. I would buy it again.
Purchased one week ago and these are my initial observations. Fast accurate GPS in car (and home). Maps appear to be up to date. Very clear video and audio with street names. Great features include Music Player and Photo Viewer with large capacity SD/MMC card. Excellent battery life (7-8 hours). Excellent manufacturer's website/support. Quality product at a very reasonable price. Just purchased another unit as a gift! Lowrance is highly respected in GPS technology. There are no perfect GPS units, but if I had to categorize it as good, better or best I would rate it as "BETTER".
This GPS was very well done by Lowrance, who has beenn a leader in GPS techknowledgy for years. This GPS can go down the road and take you to your selected deestination, or you can just take it through the 2 tracks that you used to booze cruise as a kid, or take it out on the lake with you. No matter where you go, this GPS keeps positioning, does your current GPS like Garmin do that?
