This game is best better than last year's game. It runs smoother, it looks better, and in the beginning at least it is simply better during the actual game. However, some issues still carry over, and some new things exist: 1) Hitting the ball against the wall can result in the fielder merging into the wall and getting stuck. This is only resolved by jogging all the way home and scoring. I mean, maybe you could have gotten a triple...and this happened twice in two consecutive innings. 2) Sometimes you throw the easy out to first, and the dude is simply stupid and isn't on the bag. There's no way to easily rectify this if this is a bang-bang play, but if you beat out the runner by a lot, you can wheel the fielder around to tag him out. Maybe. 3) Pitching is a bit too easy now. There have been times I've just gotten lazy and just jerk the stick ever which way, and a perfect pitch comes out. 4) And...while we're at it, the AI in this game is not so good. Stealing bases is harder in this game; you have to time it just right, but the button to steal is apparently on a delay. You can't just punch the button once you see the pitcher start the windup. That makes it a lot harder. However, if you screw up and start charging for second while the pitcher still has the ball, you can still return to your base easily, even if you go 3/4ths of the way to 2nd. Also, the CPU will not take balls that much. 3, 4, and 5 pitch innings are common for you. Therefore, stamina is not really an issue. 5) As noted before, stats for the opposing team is not available unless you buy the stuff during the game, and even then you don't get to see the batting order, which is ridiculous. That should be a no brainer. It sometimes feels like a hockey player designed the baseball stat mechanism. Even after all of that, though, this isn't that bad of a game to play. If you're really serious about baseball and stats, you probably won't like the game. For the casual fan of baseball or of baseball games, this isn't the worst. Basic improvements to this game result in a much better game than last year, but they clearly have room for improvement. ADVICE: If you are getting this game because you have an XBOX, ok. If you have a PS3, get the other baseball game; I think it's a lot better.Read full review
2K sports is getting very close to producing the ultimate baseball game for the 360.....Unfortunately this game is slowed by some little bugs that a casual gamer can overlook or may not even notice but seasoned gamers will quickly pick up on. This years version has smoother pitching and hitting, great crowd animations, excellent commentary and decent graphics. I enjoy this game very much and can't wait until next years version. If next years isn't AWESOME I will lose faith in 2k sports. They have had ample time to get this thing right. From 1 -100 I give MLB 2K9 an 80....
I am a big fan of baseball video games, all the way back to the Sega Genesis. And the fun has always come down to pitching and hitting. If these two parts of the game are fun, the game has a great chance to be a winner. And the pitching and hitting in MLB 2K9 is as fun as I can remember. This game may have some hiccups and bugs, but it is still very fun. It is also the only baseball game you are going to be able to get on the X-Box 360. Bottom Line: If you love baseball and have an X-box 360 give this game a shot, you will have a lot of fun.
I have never been more disappointed in a company's product. There are so many glitches that I truly believe they should be fined or punished by the government for scamming consumers. They spent a hell of a lot of time on those catchy Tim Lincecum commercials, yet it is hard to make it through a whole game without feeling the effects of the glitches this game has. Franchise mode (the only reason I bought this game) is completely useless because every time you save the game freezes, thus you can never complete a season. Other in game glitches include your first basemen randomly getting pulled off the base (sometimes 2 or 3 or 4 times in one inning) on routine throws to first, sometimes outfielders circle around where the ball will land as if there is a force field preventing the out from being made, sometimes when I've made a pitching substitution late in the game the pitching menu just goes away. Aside from these glitches they also took away some of the features from 2k8 like how you can browse through the trade screens. This is probably one of the worst video games to ever be released on the market and 2k sports won't even talk to the consumer about it (they are basically ignoring the existence of the game). PLEASE JOIN ME IN BOYCOTTING ALL 2K SPORTS GAMES UNTIL THEY GET OFF THEIR HIGH HORSE AND ADDRESS THE TENS OF THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE THAT WERE FUCKED OVER BY THE COMPANIES GREED FROM WANTING TO GET THE GAME ON THE MARKET BEFORE THE KINKS WERE WORKED OUT. GIVE ME A REFUND, A FREE WORKING COPY OF MLB 2K10, OR AT LEAST AN APOLOGY AND UNTIL THEN FUCK YOU 2K SPORTS!Read full review
The game controls you can easily get used to! And that was the first thing on my mind before I bought the game! But the controls are easy and you will adapt to them fast! The graphics couldn't be better! Every little detail is added in this one of a kind game! The batter's swings and the pitcher's pitches look exactly like they do in real life. The game modes are great and the Homerun derby is realistic and very addicting, but the rest of the modes are addicting as well! If you are a Baseball lover or just like the game, then this is the game for you! It is very great to play with your friends on your console or online! The connection is great and there are no lags! Online it keeps track of your statistics and standings! This game is really sure to please!
I'm a casual gamer so I don't expect too much out of a game to enjoy it. This game has incredible graphics but actual game-play can be pretty sketchy at times. The developers have tried to give you more "control" and they do, but not successfully. With the depth of control comes many glitches that really limits the control with the game. It's ok to buy, just not worth more than $25. MLB 2k9 still has a long ways to go to make a good, quality baseball game that will only leave you frustrated when you struck-out in the bottom of the ninth to end the game, not because of crappy glitches. Until then, we can only hope that MLB 09 The Show will become available for the Xbox 360 console.
It is definetly more in-depth than any other baseball game I have played recently. Once you get used to the controls.....it's a lot of fun. The achievements are pretty challenging to get as well...which adds to the game. I wouldn't say it is the best I have ever played, but definetly one of the better. Well worth a look, whether renting or making the actual purchase.
The game sucks. It looks great, but it sucks. It's not at all realistic. I purchased it because I read that the update patches fixed a lot of issues, boy, am I sorry I did. The presentation is hokey, but that's not even a big issue. The issue is online and the amount of homeruns. I understand that you can adjust sliders and yadda yadda, but I like playing online ranked matches and it is damn near impossible to not give up more than two runs a game. The pitching overlay also looks terrible and the changed the way a fastball looks coming in, so it has almost no gas on it and you can just jack them out of the park. You can never get away with throwing a fastball to a big hitter, no matter the location, without it getting knocked out. They need to fix this title with a patch. I love baseball and the only reason I got this was because I have an Xbox 360. 2K8 was solid enough for me, but this is terrible. Tons of other errors too, but the pitching/homerun thing is the worst. It plays like an arcade baseball game. It's goofy. If I wanted "The Bigs" I would have gotten that game. Maybe they'll get it right next year.Read full review
