National Geographic: Herod's Lost Tomb is a point-and-click hidden object game, based on the same-titled documentary that follows the archeological investigation of the life and death of the infamous, ancient ruler. As surmised in the television special, the game presents King Herod not only as the paranoid potentate known from the Gospel of Matthew for ordering the slaughter of all the male infants in his kingdom, but also as a creator of buildings and monuments of heretofore unimagined size and expense. Players take the role of a fictional archeologist who has joined the search for the lost tomb of the King of Judea. By finding listed objects in detailed pictures and paintings, and by solving casual mini-games, players progress through the narrative of the documentary, following the lifelong explorations of archaeologists through Holy Land locations including Masada, Caesarea, and the Second Temple of Jerusalem.
