Features Actors:Sarah Wynter,Callum Blue,Ellen Muth & Mandy Patinkin Rating:R Dead Like Me: Life After Death Ellen Muth and Callum Blue return to reap in the movie that follows up the critically acclaimed Showtime series. In the film, which begins two years after the end of the series, the undead reapers meet their new boss, Cameron Kane (Henry Ian Cusick of "Lost" and Hitman). Kane's new agenda creates disorder among the reapers. Daisy (Sarah Wynter of "24" and "Windfall") and Mason (Callum Blue of "The Tudors" and "Related") fall for Cameron's temptations. Meanwhile Georgia "Georgie" Lass (Ellen Muth of Dolores Claiborne) breaks the most important rule of reaping when she reveals herself to her earthly family in order to bring peace to her mother and younger sister. Dead Like Me: Life After Death is sure to please fans of the Showtime series. The story can be a bit confusing for new viewers based mostly on the unfamiliar character interactions and mannerisms. Still, the movie does a decent job as a standalone film. It offers some clever and witty moments and a few laughs. The plot is compelling with Georgie struggling to stick to the rules of reaping when she sees her family suffer. Dead Like Me is an interesting supernatural saga. Hope this helps you decide. Thanks for reading! :)Read full review
Every sequal has as it's goal to out-do it's predecessor. Sadly this work does live up to that mark. Those of us spoiled by breakfast at Der Waffle, Daisy and Rube will be disappointed as all have been written out. Mason, Roxy, Crystal and Herbig all are in perfect form. George however seems to drag on a bit and is far from her normal, witty and monotone self. I suppose she has grown up a bit but mainly I would have to say that the movie lacks continuity and a credible story line. (Remember when Mason kills Daisy's jerk boyfriend and his soul is a Gravling?) Nothing of that calibre suspense. Frankly it does not go anywhere. I found myself asking "Where is Rube, Daisy?" Reggie does get that her dead sister is George and that's cool. Honestly as I write this, nothing sticks out. No slammers or crack up points stand out. I was disapointed to say the least and before I knew it the movie was over. It left me asking what happened. I'll watch it again and see if my impression changes. On scale of thumbs, I give one thumb down and one up....Read full review
This movie is in no way a stand alone movie. Without the two season series it would not have made it to DVD. I liked the series but the movie is empty with a scattered plot and the feel of an episode from a different series. The cast with the exception of the missing "Rube and Daisy" originals fell back into character with just the right amount of growth and old anchorage. The casting to replace the original Daisy was desasterous! The woman who played the role looked and acted like a cheap older version of Daisy, perhaps her mother. Nice to fill out the collection but not worth buying as a stand alone movie.
If you like the show, this is a fitting way to enjoy it one last time. Rube has gotten his light and does not appear in the movie, and daisy is played by a diffrent actress. These are the only down parts of the movie. All the other characters are there, including reggie who has grown up considerably since the last season. This movie is for fans of the show, if you haven't watched dead like me yet, buy the seasons first before you watch this. All and all, this movie gives the show one last hurrah.
My husband & I just LOVE 'Dead Like Me'!! We waited so long for this because it was such a disappointment when the series ended! All the characters became like our 'friends', as we got to 'know' them. We liked the series so much, we bought the complete 2 seasons. As far as the 'movie', it was great. There was so much revealed here! It was so nice to see George, Mason, and Roxy. Even Delores Herbig was her silly, crazy self, but you can't help but like her. Delores & "Millie" become closer friends in this one & "Millie" also has more responsibility and authority at Happy Time. (Even Crystal was there) Rube was missed a real lot! The new Head Reaper was just 'ok', but made you miss Rube even more (Rube was like the father figure of the group). The one that played Daisy was far from Daisy... she was not the same at all. Daisy & Rube were unique & no one could replace them! But the movie was good. It involves more of George's mom, Joy and especially her kid sister, Reggie... except Reggie is a pretty teenager, played by the same girl as the 'young' Reggie. That's all I'll say, as I don't want to reveal any of the plot. Even in spite of missing Rube & Daisy, I'm rating this as Excellent. Overall, (especially) if you're a DLM Fan, you gotta see this movie!Read full review
