This is clearly a high-quality knife and will likely live through the decades! The downside is that it is heavy and thick, with wide serration such that it tends to tear bread as it cuts. Yet I cannot imagine a bread so hard that this knife would not get through it; I can actually imagine using it as a saw if absolutely necessary. My favorite bread knife is an Ecko with a thin ten-inch blade that has worked perfectly on everything I have used it on; it is no longer made, so I purchased the Chicago Cutlery one for a house in which I am staying. I like the Chicago Cutlery brand in general.

First, I have J.A. Henckels knives, I have had in the past Wustof knives. I have used junk Ginsu etc. knives. I settled on J. A. Henckels international because they are very high quality at a budget price for top end knife. I wanted a bread knife, but didn't want to pay $40.00 and up for a Henckels. With lots of research, I settled on this and hoped for the best. WHAT A SURPRISE. The Blade is high quality. The thickness is heavy enough so it doesn't flex. The handle is nothing special but quite natural feeling and average. Some are very uncomfortable to handle. Not this. The scallops are smaller than cheap knives which makes for easier cutting. That is something you would expect on a more expensive knife. The length is great. I slice large Sourdough rolls. So, a regular length knife won't work, not long enough. I am very pleased. This knife is a pleasant surprise for the price.Read full review

I use my bread machine every few days. I also have a special wooden gadget with guides to make slicing the bread into equal slices easier than slicing the bread freehand. I purchased this knife because of its 10 inch blade length - the length required by my bread slicing gadget. The knife is well made and sharp enough to cut through the crust of fresh French bread with ease. I would highly recommend this knife to anyone that bakes fresh bread.

Wanted a good “used” knife to match my set. This certainly fit the bill. It came oiled & sharpened & clean. Thank you!

I love this knife! I make my own bread and the french bread can be a bit of a problem to slice but this knife goes through it great!! Says sharp and the length is great for using with my bread slicing guide.

As an artisan bread baker, I need a knife worthy of hard crusts. The Chicago Cutlery BT10P Walnut Tradition Serrated Bread Knife is, frankly, amazing. It cleanly slices through hard, seeded crusts while perfectly slicing soft crumbs. Bar none, this is the best knife I've used for artisan as well as traditional loaves. Highly recommended!

As a chef I have used $300 knives. But I will say everyone needs a bread knife and slicing bread ain't rocket science but this knife gets the job done.
