My Grandson (12 years of age) loves Mythology and this series by Rick Riordan. Whenever he gets his hands on one no one can get his attention for anything else. His nose is squarely in the kingdom that Mr. Riordan has taken him to. If a new volume is not available, he simply rereads whichever one he has on hand. My Grandson was diagnosed with Aspergers just as he entered kindergarten. Bottom line, reading has been his saving grace. He is incredibly bright and would be in accelerated programs at school if not for his socialization issues. That's where Aspergers got him. He wants to do what he wants to do when he wants to do it and that seldom aligns with the teacher. Thank goodness for books and thank goodness for authors like Mr. Riordan who are able to create a world and characters that draw him in. Books are so important for so many people for so many reasons. For my Grandson, this particular book as well as the others in this series allows him to escape into a place where he can imagine and develop ideas about how and where this journey might go. He gets really excited when he knows that another book in this series is about to become available at the library or that I've ordered one for him or that one is available online to read. The schools in our community have many of these books in their libraries so they must approve of them as well. At any rate, my Grandson enthusiastically recommends this volume. As a matter of fact, he is rereading this one right now. When you are making the decision to order for a child or young person, take into consideration their reading level. For example, my Grandson reads at a significantly higher level than his chronological age of 12 so just think about the young person for whom you may be buying.Read full review
If you're reading this without having experienced Rick Riordan's first novel in the series: The Lightning Thief, or the three other books which precede this one don't worry - I won't spoil anything, but I highly recommend you start at the beginning. The entire series is full of witty humor based around Greek mythology, and although I considered myself to be pretty well versed on the topic I still learned a few things I hadn't known about the Gods and ancient Greek heroes. In that respect the book is both well-researched and interpreted for a modern audience. A great series for kids and adults alike, I recommend it for anyone aged ten or older with an interest in mythology, Harry Potter fans, modern fantasy buffs, players of the Whitewolf roleplaying game Scion: Hero as there are many ideas which coincide, and families struggling with the difficulties of ADD/ADHD or dyslexia as these are addressed in a very sympathetic and positive way in the books. This book is a solid concluding entry to the epic saga of Percy Jackson, and although it was a bit predictable there were still parts which took me by surprise. The last third of the story tends to drag a little and the main climax takes a while to build, leaving little room for démouement towards the back of the book, but it sets the stage for the second series set in the same world: Heroes of Olympus. Despite this, it remains a satisfying conclusion to the five book series Percy Jackson and the Olympians.Read full review
The Last Olympian is the final book in the Percy Jackson novels by Rick Riordan. My family has been reading these books aloud in the evenings since the first one came out. Rick Riordan really did his homework when writing these books and made learning about Greek mythology fun for my kids. They learned about the characters through these books then went to the internet and library to learn more and to see how these characters compared with the traditional view of them. The characters are well written and, as the readers, we really grew to care about them throughout these five books. What my kids loved the most about these books is that they're FUNNY! They really are! There were many times, while reading aloud, we had to stop because we were laughing so hard! They're also very exciting. It's a wonderful series and this is a fitting end to it. Or is it? We're hoping there will be more!Read full review
I love this series of books by Rick Riordan. I chose to purchase this one because I have read the first four and needed to finish it. I have no dislikes of this book. I love it because it is meant for a young adult or teenager up to adult ages without any profanity in it. I can follow the storyline easy because there are times I can't put the book down it is so good. I like the adventures Percy gets into with Grover and Annabeth. I would recommend this series to everyone. It also confirmed some things about Greek God mythology I was wondering about:)
My son and I love these stories and what an awesome way to learn about Greek gods. They are full of adventure and excitement and there is no fowl language or other objectionable things in them. I say they are a win win.

This is a book I've read at my library and had to own for myself. I absolutely love the witty humor as the great prophecy winds to a shocking, thrilling close, leaving a gap for Rick Riordan's second great prophecy and the start of the new series. The ending is completely satisfying, although it did make me sorry that the series had ended. But not to worry! His new series is just as entertaining, with plenty of wit and whimsy along the way!
The whole series is great. My 12 year old son finishes them in just a few days. He is really picky about his books. If it's not great from the begining he won't bother with it. Great Author!
My 10 year old son has read all of these books - this one being the last. When I asked him if it was good, he answered that it was just as good as the first (which he loved!). This whole series has kept him engrossed for hours!
