AC/DC Live: Rock Band Track Pack was announced on September 29, 2008, and was released for the PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 on November 2. The Wii version was released on November 16, 2008. The pack contains all 18 tracks from AC/DC's album Live at Donington. The game, through pre-existing licensing deals that AC/DC has with the retail chains,[6] is only available at Wal-Mart and Sam's Club.[7] This exclusivity agreement was only applicable in the United States, and ended on November 4, 2009 when GameStop began selling new copies of the game for $20.[8] Each copy of the track pack includes a code that can be redeemed online to allow Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 owners to download the content to their console for use in other Rock Band titles. The game can also be played as a standalone title, including a number of Achievements for Xbox 360 owners, but otherwise does not feature many of the gameplay elements of the full Rock Band titles, such as character creation or customization, online play, or a World Tour mode.[6] The track pack retails for $30 for the PS2 version and $40 for other consoles.[5][7] The Guitar Hero guitar for Wii is compatible with this game. Harmonix has confirmed that the songs will remain exclusive to the disc release, citing AC/DC's preference to sell their music as full albums instead of singles. They have not ruled out releasing the content in the future should the band's views change.[9]Read full review
The best part of the pack is that it includes all the band's iconic songs: "Back in Black," "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap," "Hells Bells," "You Shook Me All Night Long," "T.N.T.," "Highway to Hell" and "For Those About to Rock (We Salute You)." On the flip side, you're also getting saddled with a number of tracks you might not be all that interested in. Was anyone really clamoring for "The Jack" or "Hell Ain't a Bad Place to Be"? The live version of "High Voltage" is so dragged out that it's completely un-fun to play on any instrument. The live versions are pretty clean, although the padding commonly associated with live performances occasionally hurts them as gameplay levels. Songs start to sound alike at some point, with far more AC/DC here than most of us will ever want to play.
BEWARE OF FAKE SELLERS ON EBAY SELLING DLC CODES! The code is FREE when you buy this game! DO NOT BUY CODES OFF EBAY SELLERS! This is a pretty good add on to your Rock Band 1 or 2 collection. The game is a stand alone, or downloadable content, and has some of ac/dc's best jams. If you are an ac/dc groupie, this is a must-have for your collection. pros - good gaming! Tricky songs to play, downloadable content, not TOO easy. Cons- No custom characters, all the tracks are live, so playing can be misleadng sometimes, but still a good challenge All in all, its a fun game. I enjoyed playing it!
The only thing this standalone game is worth buying for is the fact that it has a redeemable code (making the songs available as DLC on your Rock Band 1/2 games). The game itself is terrible, looks like they took many steps back; honestly, it looks like a brainstorm project mid-development for RB2, before they even finished. The calibration is always off (plus there are no options other than manual, whereas in RB1 and RB2 there are different TV type settings to make it easy), there is no character creation (just randomized ones thrown on the screen), and only 12 basic - at best - achievements (the same amount they give arcade titles). I am sure the only reason it even was made was because of the AC/DC comeback trend, where Wal-Mart wanted to make "vintage rock" everything and hope the old fans made them a huge profit. It's a subpar game for the time we're in, especially for $40 (an 18 track album DLC would only be around 1800 MSP or $20). All in all, the only reason to buy (and keep) the game disc would be if all you wanted to do was play these few tracks, while being frustrated with the game itself.Read full review
When I was considering buying this add-on for nearly $40 (now it's 30 brand new exclusively at Wal Mart/ ACDC's site, and here on eBay) I was skeptical about paying so much for just a few songs - some of which I hadn't heard of - from a single band. I was also skeptical about the quality of the tracks, as many "Live" tracks are garbage. However, when I popped in this standalone and cranked up THUNDERSTRUCK (the first track) it exceeded all of my expectations. ACDC's live performance is epic. The real fan ambiance in the background only serves to pump you up even more. And though many of the bass and drum sections are a little repetitive at times, the live guitar and vocals are incredibly fun and may be more challenging than the non-live recordings. The guitar solos especially are top-notch good times. Though not as impossible as some would like, you really feel like a rock god, especially with all those screaming fans! A note to buyers: If you plan to buy this on eBay, you can buy it without the code and have the standalone game, which is absolutely fine (and all that is needed if you only have Rock Band 1). But if you'd rather not switch disks and have these tracks included in your Rock Band 2 library, then make sure to get one WITH a code so you can import the songs into Rock Band 2. All in all, this is a definite buy for any fan or Rock Band or ACDC. Even if some of the parts are repetitive, you can't help but stand up and jam out with your friends like a rock-wannabe nerd. For those about to rock, we salute you!Read full review
This is a good addition to the Rock Band series. The choice of hits are there, and of course live tracks prove that Brian Johnson and the band are great musicians. I got to see them during the For Those About to Rock promo tour - unforgettable outstanding performance. I still think they should have thrown in at least one Bon Scott live track just to complete what was/is ACDC live. On the other hand, maybe they should come out with a studio version? Bottom line is this was a worthy purchase, and only holding back from the excellent due to what has been stated in the title.
To start off, this is mainly like every other track pack disc extension out there for the X360 / PS3. In order to play all the songs you have to go through a setlist of songs that generally increase in difficulty as you progress. You also get a code to redeem the setlist for use with other Rock Band titles, such as RB2 or at this time 3. Unlike the others which are mainly quick, this extension gives a lengthy playtime with songs that you can't buy off of the Music Store. You can use the code without even playing the game if you want.
This is a great addition to the library of Rock Band songs. The disc itself isnt nothing special, its basically a stripped down version of Rock Band 1 with no character customization, no online, no world tour, like I said, stripped down. But what makes the game great like all the other track packs for Rock Band, is that it comes with a code allowing you to save all the songs to your hard-drive for play on Rock Band 2 and future titles. I got this code for a GREAT deal here on eBay, so anyone with Xbox Live or PSN that wants to rock the best of AC/DC, just find the code and forget about the disc!
