The machine works really good, but not for my purposes, the tape speed is too fast for the tapes I'm trying to digitize, even with the pitch control slowed all the way down, gotta find out if I can have it serviced and synchronized. Otherwise it's great, if I can get it modified I may make a recording or two just so I can say I used it for somthing but then I'm going to try and sell it until I find one that works for me.

Pros:This unit is the easiest to use I have found of the small Fostex 4 track recorders. It doesn't have EQ so you will need a small mixer board to get the most out of it. That said you can make some respectable self and live band practice recording with it. It has variable input settings on the input channels which allows you to compress the feed and the DI inputs sound really good. The unit is durable and if taken care of properly will last a long time. Always put a cassette case in front of the unit for the input cords so that the input jacks don't get wonky. Cons: Fostex support on these recorders is almost no existent with the exception of on line manuals. So when it malfunctions you are on your on to get it repaired . Note: In general since they don't make these anymore , you are probably buying it used and online (ebay etc) Make sure all the functions of this unit work before you buy it .That includes fast forward/rewind etc. just because the green light comes on doesn't mean it's a-ok. ask lots of questions. As it turned out, tracks 2 and 4 will not record. I contacted the seller, who offered a full reimbursement. The friend for whom I bought the unit was really interested in the multi-track playback, which works fine. The seller was awesome, and my friend is pleased. Another good eBay story. I'm moving my friend to digital recording anyway, so this X-15 fit the bill on his needs. Ebay rocks!
It's a great little unit, super easy to use and perfect for capturing your ideas on the spot

I think this was the "Bargain of the Century". I'm pretty sure that manufacture stopped in the mid 90's. It was described and looked like brand new, but stated that it was not tested for functionality and was sold as is. My same unit stopped working and I felt Ebay was probably the only solution to getting another. Was I lucky? This unit arrived in the original box with the original manual, and I think it is as close to brand new as one can get. I am delighted with this purchase.
