This is a great product. It says to put it on a flat surface but I put it on my dog's cot under a lightweight cotton cover and it works great on this. The cover of the pad is durable--made of a nylon canvas type of material that looks like it must be waterproof. The only drawback is that the material is kinda slippery. Once when my dog ran and jumped on her cot it slid right out from under the cotton cover and flew off the cot,. When my dog walks over and lays on her cot, it doesn't move. I live in the foothills where it gets below freezing in the winter and I leave my dog outside when I am away with a doggie door into the garage. I can feel comfortable leaving her knowing that she can go in the garage and have a warm bed to lay on.

I have two of these; one is for my outside cat and I put it in her cat house and she loves it on the really cold nights. I leave it plugged in 24/7 during the winter months and it has lasted for a few years. It started only being warm in spots so I purchased a replacement and brought the old one inside for my indoor senior cat. It still works, just not quite as warm. I love the durable cord and plug for outside use.

Was worried that it didn’t work when I plugged it in and it didn’t get hot right away, but once the dog sits on it it used his body heat to trigger the heating in the bed, dog likes it, it uses less electricity because of this. very good product. as it states not so good if your animal is a chewer but otherwise looks to be a durable product. like the wire wrapped cord. I got the large as my dog is over 100#. he fits but just barely. but as the nights are getting colder he loves laying on it. I am very glad I made the purchase.
