I bought this UPS to replace an older one. It appears these newer APC units are re-designed such that the heavy iron based transformer (internal) is not needed any more, because it is much lighter than the older models. Also, when the unit kicks in (after an AC power dropout) is is completely quiet, no noisy 120Hz rattle like the old one did. So they must have based the new design on a much higher switching frequency, allowing for small ferrite transformers instead of the heavy and noisy iron one. It also has a good Windows app to set it up on your PC, and showing you all the important parameters under operation. The SLA battery used in it is a standard one, so if it gives up after 3 years, there is no need to buy an expensive APC battery, you can get a generic battery that is much cheaper than the APC one.
