Fixes the problem
The item showed up quickly, fit perfectly and corrected a serious mistake in design that Briggs and Stratton engaged in; namely putting a plastic gear inside of a hot crankcase and then asking it to not only act as a critical timing gear but also as a thrust spacer supporting the load of not only the crankshaft but the flywheel as well. What I don't understand is why this review questionnaire asks such silly questions about "How compact it is" or "How easy to start it is". And as far as value is concerned I suppose if you consider ten dollars to correct a problem that never should have been allowed out of the design group at the factory to be a good value then it is a good value. However, a better value would have been for Briggs and Stratton to supply the replacement gear at no charge with a note of apology.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

direct replacement fit
This gear installs as a replacement for the original plastic timing gear, which split open and spun on crankshaft. The camshaft gear is plastic also but is much more expensive. Mower is running fine again. Get a crankcase gasket too.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New
