I purchased this scanner used, my old scanner was getting unreliable. Since this one uses LED lighting it did not require a warmup, and the fact that it runs off USB power makes it very convienent and portable. Make sure that the scanner head is locked before moving the unit if there is any chance of a hard bump. (It is not easy to take the scanner apart to put the belt back on the idler wheel.) Of course, this goes for any scanner. The image quality and color accuracy is excellent, and the ability to scan film with the included film adapter is a nice bonus. (Don't forget to calibrate) The scanner's ability to be placed on edge and dropping sheets of paper into it to scan is nice when there is a lot of work to do. Resolutions and colors accuracy are adequate. This is for a fast copy/scan job not for professional use. Keep in mind it’s NOT compatible with Windows 10. I’m using it with Windows 7. The driver for Windows 7 is still available on Canon web site at the moment. Really easy to set up. I’m happy with what I’m using it for.

I had already been using a canon scanner Lide 35. However my new pc would not recognize it..so after about a year, I broke down and purchased this model. No issues with my PC and it works fine. I am pleased with the performance and would recomend it to a friend. This Model will also read 35mm film and make pictures from the original film negatives.. I was unaware of this at the time of purchase...definatley a bonus as I still have my 35 mm slr camera ! It functions faster than the older Lide 35 scanner did. Very happy with our new scanner!
I've generally used HP or MicroTek scanners but was price shopping to replace a scanner broken by movers for the wife/mother-in-law. This Cannon is laughable lightweight and thin / flimsy. It has a 'prop-up' food on one side tends / contributes to items sliding away from the 'home' registration point. That said, the scanner works as advertised, the scan quality is good and it's easy to use. Drivers are included w/Windows XP and there's no real reason that I see to download the free software from Canon. There are additional 'buttons' for some standard automated functions like copy that I didn't use/setup.
There is some things to note they do not actually support W10 with this scanner. They suggest that most often W7 or W8 which was supported will also work with most W10's. Forget W11. Meantime there can be problems they didn't expect if you have W10. For that reason I am not installing on my W10 laptop a year old now. But am using on my XP usually off line machine because it's got all my favorite graphic programs and many other programs that run my digitizing programs for Pazzle Inspiration digital cutting machine and my digital embroidery machine program and also much earlier kind of microscopic flex equipment. And some other interesting things no longer supported by anyone or updated. So with that in mind it was easy to install and husband is thinkng about installing on his W7 too. We are not happy with Windows upgrades that leaves your expensive programs and more expensive equipment in the dust so to speak and without updates or support of any kind. Thus the hustle to keep older computer operating systems still working. It is sad cannon hasn't kept this series of scanners updated with newest W's but I'm happy it works. It replaces a much expensive flat bed scanner that works fine but I never wanted but got stuck with and oversized. This is super small profile even when flat. I am storing it upright with it's built in stand but will use it laid down flat usually. Has a lot of bells and whistles if you take the time to investigate the avenues for such. Including pretty sophisicated file work. I myself don't bother with that. Just simple scan and or use as quick copy scanner for photo's and graphic and text alike. It does a decent job as good as the original huge version Yes this was new but obsolete in many ways. But exactly what I was looking for. Read full review
