I compared several low cost compact condensor mics for mixing acoustic cymbals with an electronic drum set. One of the ones I tried was CADs 'entry' level microphone, the GXL1200, which faired pretty well in my tests. So when I got a chance to get the 'higher level' CAD microphone at a competitive price, I was eager to try it. All my other mics were 'cardiod' (directional) pattern, and this one provided both cardiod and omnidirectional elements. So in addition to the 'higher quality' sound, I was also eager to have the omnidirectional potential if that ever became useful to me. At first glance, it seemed very well made. But then I realized that there was no 'grill' over the mic element. Uh-oh. This may be a result of the changeable elements, but it is a problem for me, who can be a clutz at times. The sight of that element just begging to be damaged pretty well removed my interest in this mic. I tried it, of course, but the performance was not exceptional, and there was a bit of 'ambiance' noise. Due to the exposed element, I didn't bother trying to figure out if this could be improved. Perhaps I did not give it a fair trial, or perhaps I got a 'lemon', but it does not appear to be even as good as the GXL1200 at half the cost of this model. Which is not to say it cannot do the job. Just that mine, at least, doesn't do it any better than cheaper microphones, and appears like it could be easily damaged in 'real world' usage.Read full review
man, this mike is awsome and has such a great sound , i picked one up for 50 bucks on ebay and they retail for almost 200 bucks on musicians friend and other sites , so look for it on ebay if you can and buy it used , this is built like a tank and has db cut switches for different noise rtekections and low and high filter cuts , it also can be switched from cardoid to hyper cardoid when you exchange capsuls,, i highly recomend this mike for pristine high end sounds that will make your cymbals smile and your high hat sizzle!
If you need an inexpensive SDC for recording factory noise, stadium noise, city noise or just plain noise, this is the mic for you. This mic will make your ears bleed if used to capture acoustic guitar or mandolin.

I was not expecting such a big sound from such a small mic. Haven’t used it much yet but what I’ve heard so far is impressive.
