First off, I have a Bachelors in audio production as well as certification from a private recording studio in Rockville, MD. I operate a small basically bedroom studio for singer songwriters to make demos. I have been trying different low cost mics to fill empty spaces in my mic locker, which I was missing a multipattern for some time. Cad makes some good mics, you just have to be wary...for instance the CAD GXL 2400 is cheap sounding, exhibiting the harshness of many Chinese made microphones. The CAD Trion 6000 is a solid state mic, do not listen to those dealers saying it is a tube mic, it is NOT. The trion 8000 is the tube version of the 6000. Anyways the trion 6000 is well built and comes with a sturdy shockmount which it basically lives in. It also exhibits excellent off axis rejection when used in bidirectional polar pattern. It does not have a the harsh sound of some of their other cheaper mics, but still it doesn't deliver a sound that will make you go "wow". I used it on a male vocalist and acoustic guitar; the voice was okay, flattish response, while the acoustic guitar was thin sounding, when in fact it wasn't. For the price of around 200 to 300 dollars, well there are other mics out there that sound better. I suggest the CAD M179 which is a variable selection multipattern which generally shows up cheaper. The M179 has a very flat and transparent sound, it may not deliver sheen, but I have found it more useful than the CAD Trion 6000.Read full review
Remembering the very old b/w pictures of people, speaking into "bottle-microphoes" it did interest me very much, to have a similar looking unit, as a nostalgic item at the same corner, where having also the old units from the years 1950'ies... Of course, there is a slight mistake, looking to the shape, as this microphone has a very clear and very modern sound, which did interest me later more than the shape and I do like it today, using it, when I do need fine nuances on the recorded sound of the electronic organ, which will be recorded pure without reverberation, where the effects will be added later on mix-down. The articulation reproducing the different waves from the special 12" loudspeaker creates an attractive sound for the old Wersi-Organ, which will be used now only with this Trion 6000 microphone, where the tube preamplifier and old Telefunken M15A rounds up the nostalgic sound with the clear recoring front endRead full review
Great features and versatil mic Have a nice color and tone...good for vocal and GTR. Is dual diaphragms and come in 3 different flavors(patterns). The Trion 6000 is a very open sounding condenser. The Trion 6000 is a multi-pattern, externally biased, large dual diaphragm studio condenser microphone. Incorporates a sophisticated, precision-machined, hand-assembled capsule. The low mass 1" gold vapor deposited, hand dampened diaphragms offer an articulate, rich and open sound ideal for studio vocals, choir, classical stringed instruments, piano and acoustic guitar
