I purchased the Zoji because the inexpensive rice cooker I had was scorching the bottom of the rice and leaving the rest not cooked through. I researched rice cookers and found that Zojirushi is a top rated brand. I wanted a 3-cup rice cooker because I am most often cooking for just me. One rice cooker cup of raw rice makes enough cooked rice for me for a few meals. I also like the fact that it has a pre-set timer function and different settings for white and brown rice. My only criticism would be that on the regular setting, white rice takes almost an hour because the zoji soaks the rice before it begins cooking it. I have started using the quick rice setting which takes about 30 minutes for white rice, a time more suitable for me as it cooks while I am preparing the rest of my meal. Some reviewers say that this function leaves the rice a bit uncooked. To my delight, I have used this function a few times and found the result to be perfect. I leave the cooker on my counter as it is small and sleek looking. The little tune it plays as it begins and ends a cook cycle makes me smile - a nice touch by the Zoji people! The unit is well made and the interior, removable cooking vessel is heavy duty and well marked with the cup measurements inside for white, brown and porridge. Although the zoji is very expensive comparitively, I believe it will last several years, saving me money in the end for not having to purchase another inexpensive, short-lived rice cooker.Read full review
Soooooo slow: a mere 1-cup of brown rice takes 1:45. The end product is quite good but, for the investment of $$$ + cooking time, I expected something supernatural. The design is beautiful - despite the silly "Twinkle, Twinkle" cooking-cycle overture. At 4600' altitude I need 25% less water & a tad more rice than they call for. Simple to operate & clean. The cooking chamber seems teflon-coated despite my having ordered a "stainless steel" unit (definitely a dark color & not a shiny silver).
This product is easy to use and makes perfect rice. The size and portability make it a great addition to our small kitchen and the function is superb. If you like your rice and hate cooking it in a pan, as I hated to for so many years, this is the way to go! This 3-cup model makes a good deal of rice in one go, so unless you have a larger family, this is a good size for everyday use.
I've had this rice cooker for about 6 months and use it at least once a week. It's really easy to use, easy to clean, and makes excellent rice every time. I love that I can start the rice, leave to pick up my kids, run an errand, or just generally go about my business and when the rest of dinner is ready, the rice is waiting - hot, fresh, and perfect! I should have bought one of these YEARS ago. I've bought two more as gifts for my mom and mother-in-law and they both love theirs too. HIGHLY recommended!
Okay...I still have to figure out how to make steel cut oats...but the rice has been PERFECT every time. Just set it and forget it. I love the timer feature. Rice made easy and worth every penny it costs. We eat brown rice more often now and it's helping improve my diet. I'm losing weight again. Good quality machine...only thing I'd change is that it displays military time only. Cheerz
