Only time will tell of this used hard drive will last for a year or more. But after two weeks and a fresh load of Win XP it is doing fine. Set up was easy with an original XP disk and valid product key. Loading drivers proved a bit more difficult and a new Ethernet card was needed before internet access was available.
Works great! Western Digital does support their hard drives with good formating software & diagnostic software on line. I have had better luck with WD than any other brand. The only negative is some other hard drives and WD may not work together, but cannot say that was WD's fault. I am quite happy with this one and will be looking for another, soon. WD will stand behind their warranty and no problem getting a replacement-if is still is in warranty. Great buy on a well designed & build product! My first choice for a hard drive.
This hard drive works just fine. Would buy another should the need arrive. Very happy.

i have used western digital as long as i can remember and i have had two show bad sectors, and still worked well. i was able to get another drive and recover the information without a catastrophic failure that made information recovery impossible. i actually still use one of the drives with bad sectors and it still works. the WD1600JS is running cool and quite an excellant choice in hdd!
