I didn't know what I was looking for. I was comparing the Bose Accoustimass, Polk Audio and Klipsch. I went to Best Buy to see what they had. They had a special sound room called the Magnolia Room. Only high end equipment that meets the "Magnolia" standard is allowed to be displayed and used in the room. None of the brands I was looking for were in the room. Long story short, I got a great education. I learned that I never heard of the high end brands because they aren't sold through typical stores. Wow! What a difference. If you're searching and you have a Best Buy Magnolia Room near by, go and take a listen. You have to hear the difference. I bought the ProCinema 600 by Definitive Technology. They sound fantastic in my home theater!

I started out to buy a new Bose home theater system for my living room. I was replacing a Bose Cinemate that I have used for about 7 years. I bought a new high-end Samsung 55" SUHD TV so I thought a new sound system was in order. I quickly ruled out Bose products due to poor audiophile reviews and relatively high cost for what amounted to a simple soundbar system. I quickly realized I could have a very good quality AVR and speakers for a lot less money. My research led to Definitive Technology speaker and subwoofer systems paired with a Denon AVR. I was trying to keep the total cost under $1000, and the ProCinema 600 on eBay was below $450 new. I was able to score a Denon AVR S710W for $341.99. When I paired them together the sound was amazing in my modest living room. Great sound clarity and definition with crisp mid and high range, and as much bass as needed to shake the walls if you desire. Dialog is clear and very understandable, while music is beautifully clear and clean. If you have a larger room and want even fuller sound, I suggest the larger ProCinema 800 or even the 1000. Those options will cost you double the P600's. but the reviews indicate the sound is fuller and more filling for a larger home theater room. However, I think this system is perfect for most home theater users. The speakers are very beautiful and well made. They are heavy (good magnets have heft!}. The connections accept banana plugs or bare wire and are heavy and well constructed. The Subwoofer is smallish for those who have more limited space or want to conceal it in their room, but it packs a deep and crisp whallop! Criticism of the wiring method is unfounded. The speakers and sub can be wired in a standard manner (LFE (low frequency) cable from sub to AVR output with speakers wired to AVR directly) , or in a slightly more complex way suggested by DT engineers where the front 2 speakers are wired directly to the sub and then those 2 channels are wired back to the receiver. Its easy and doesn't take much extra wire. My sub sits about 2 feet from my AVR, so it required only about 5 feet of wire and 8 extra banana plugs to professionally connect in the DT suggested manner. The sound is better with this alternative method, but it is excellent using standard wiring methods as well. I tried them both and the suggested method in my opinion is just a bit fuller and more complex so I left it that way. My wife is delighted and the new Samsung TV and home theater is exquisite. She is a movie addict and claims the sound from this system puts the viewer in the middle of the action in a way she has never experienced before. I agree with her and could not be more pleased. I spent nearly half what a comparable Bose system would have cost me (for 5 speakers and a subwoofer) and they didn't offer the advantage of the AVR which brings a whole new world of audio to my living room.Read full review

Small, compact with decent sound. It's not gonna satisfy an "audiophile", but if you want decent 5.1 sound for Mom or grandma, you could do a lot worse. Also if you buy it sued in decent shape you could save a lot of dosh. Best to use banana clips on these as wire threading by hand could be a bit. Problematic. Worf

The sound quality is excellent. The center speaker clarity is what I was hoping for, which is the reason I went with this system.

Installed this system in my den to replace a Mythos system I moved to a new media room. This smaller ProCinema system is nice sounding and a good solution for our main floor TV. Not as full sounding as the Mythos but I didn’t expect it to be the same. You won’t be disappointed.
