I got this book after reading a story in the local newspaper (Daily Local News West Chester,PA) about Bill Patrick who was in the Chosin Reservoir battle. He recommended reading The Last Stand of Fox Company. I am always interested in true historical accounts. The book is well written and is a fast read. It is a real good account of the Marines that needed to hold Fox Hill for the evacuation of the US Army from the Chosin Reservoir after an outnumbered American forced faced the entry of 100,000 Chinese troops into the Korean War. The Marines not only had to keep thousand of Chinese at bay but also needed to deal with the coldest weather in Korean history.
The only military history I know of that provides accurate maps and descriptions of movements of units. First rate interviews of participants; original material, not a rewrite of a rewrite. This account strives honestly to give an honest telling of this terrible battle. The battle not only of WAR but also survival of the elements. The reader is cold just reading the intensity. This book provides lessons of history that we are well advised to revisit and heed.
