I purchased this item because it was the only home theater system with a DVD unit with HDMI that could fit on my 13" x 13" shelf. The sound quality of this unit is great, but the virtual surround mode is only slightly noticable. I would recommend this home theater system to anyone looking to upgrade the sound from their TV speakers in a small room to something better. XTP Pro mode also improves the quality of sound (manual says it makes sound seem more "natural"). In addition to outputting sound from DVD's, this unit also accepts coax or optical audio input. I currently have it connected (via optical audio) to output sound from my Xbox 360 and have experienced no delay in sound to picture comparisons. The DVD functions are the same as most other DVD players. Video quality is good over HDMI. As far as the design, the finish of this unit is a beautiful glossy black and even includes dust clothes to wipe out smudges from fingerprints. The flaws with the design are the location of the inputs/outputs, display, and on-unit controls. All inputs/outputs are located on the subwoofer (except for HDMI out, USB, and headphone), which may be a problem to some with larger rooms, but was fine for me. I would've preferred that the USB and headphone connectors were located at the front or back rather than the side. The on-unit display and controls are located on the top of the unit rather than the front. Although this location made sense for the iPod-like touch wheel, from my own experience I have not even used the touch wheel since testing it the first day I got this system. It is also inconvenient that some important information, such as volume level, are only displayed on the unit only, even in DVD mode, since you have to stand up to see what level you are at or gauge it by ear. Overall, this is a good unit for those with little space to work with, but are unsatisfied with the sound output from their normal TV speakers. Also, if you want a unit that doubles as a mini hi-fi, this unit is also great for that with it's XM compatibility, as well as ability to play FM & AM radio, but should not be purchased solely for listening to music because it would still require a TV to navigate the menus.Read full review
This is a great inexpensive system for a budget price. DVD plays well, speakers have a nice sound. Only thing i had with dvd controller is heat from other components..make sure to keep well ventilated. I had to replace because of overheating the dvd main controller.
Exactly what we needed, Thanks!
