I have a ~10 year-old, spayed, female collie. Recently, she began to have incontinent episodes while sleeping, diagnosed with "spay incontinence". My vet suggested Pronin after running some lab work to rule out other causes for the incontinence. I really did not want to give my dog a medication that has been taken off the market for human use due to heart problems and stroke. The other option was estrogen supplement, but the commercial product by Merak was out of stock throughout the country. I read some reviews on Resources, and thought I would give it shot since it contains phytoestrogens. I started her on the Resources and she initially did well, then had a relapse about a week into treatment. I then had my vet get the estrogen from a compounding pharmacy and used both the Resources and estrogen together. This worked great, so I thought it must be the estrogen that was working, I will wean her off of the Resources. A week later she had another relapse. I put her back on the full dose of Resources, with the estrogen and she if fine. I have since lowered the dose of Resources to half and continued the 1 mg of estrogen. Next I will attempt to cut the estrogen down. Obviously the Resources is doing something. Definitely worth a try before going to the Pronin. Personally, my dog will never be on Pronin, I will keep her in diapers before using that poison.Read full review
