Horace Kephart was an adventurer and writer from the United States. He became an expert in what is called today "Bushcraft", which is nothing more than the crafts needed to live of the land, in the wild or "in the bush." He lived for long periods in the Rocky Mountains, wrote books and designed a knife that is known today as the Kephart knife in honor of his designer. The design of the Condor Kephart is very close to the schematics and drawings left by Horace Kephart and some advertisement from the manufacturer that used to made it under his specifications: Colclesser Brothers, from PA. There are a few Kepharts out there nowadays, but all of them (IMHO) have the same problem that many "bushcraft knives have today. They look like knives, but they feel like pry-bars; too often too thick to accomplish the basic knife tasks efficiently... cutting easily. The Condor Kephart is 3mm thick and its blade is around 4.5 inches, made out of 1075 high carbon steel. It comes with a very thin anti rust coating that appears to be very resilient. The shape is a true spear point and has a flat grind with a small secondary bevel, that i'm planning to convex as soon as I can. The handle, made from hardwood, is long enough to take a big hand, but is relatively thin and in an oval shape. It is comfortable however. If you are looking for a knife that won't stun anybody for its looks, but will perform every single chore around the camp efficiently, from cooking to carving (even batoning, which I don't recommend), this is the knife for you. If you are looking for the ultimate looker with engraved Ivory handle and some weird steel, tempered with mysterious techniques (for some strange reason), this is not for you. This knife is pure simplicity... love it! Read full review

I haven't actually used it. May be a little light duty for a survival knife. Glad I got it. Added to my collection.

This little gem is a tremendous value for the money. The sheath alone is worth what I paid for the knife. The knife is very durable, comfortable to use, and extremely utilitarian. Sheath retention is good on my knife. The only thing I didn't like was the black coating on the blade. I sanded it off and forced a patina with malt vinegar. It looks great and makes a wonderful companion. I use it extensively both indoors and out. It is just enough knife for any reasonable task. If you love old school knives like this one, puukkos, trade knives, etc. I think you will love this.

Simple but well made. Not shipped razor sharp but in 5 minutes sharpening time it is likely the sharpest knife I own (like my Old Hickory butcher knife gets). Very utilitarian knife, and understand why Kephart liked it.

The only problem I have with this knife, is the sheath is too big around the top to grip the knife tight enough to keep it in the sheath. the knife just flops around in the sheath. turn it upside down, and the knife just falls out. I am trying to figure out a way to modify the sheath and tighten it up. The knife is a great knife.
