Mr. Randi has provided an eye opening reveal of the faith healing movement. Using his expertise in the art of deception (he's a retired magician)and his investigative prowess he brings a devastating critique on the shameless antics of con artist who invoke the name of God to bilk people out of millions of dollars. Where the book is strong is in the case history of these 'ministers'. James shares some background and shares sometimes amusing, sometimes heartbreaking stories of his investigation. It amazes the reader at how callus these people are. On the downside however I fear for the most part Mr. Randi preaches to the chior. At times he seems to suggest that any belief in God is irrational. As an atheist he seems to slightly belittle the faith of believers. This is bad form being that the people he seems to want to reach out to is believers. In this regard he places himself at a disadvantage. I heard him in an interview marvel that people were still following some of these people such as Peter Popoff. It could be that this is part of the reason. Also I do wonder if a miracle was presented to Mr. Randi if he would be willing to acknowledge the possibilty of the power of God. Overall I do believe the book is very good and benifical. I would like to see it updated. Certainly worth reading!Read full review
This is a rare book but a very valuable asset. This book debunks many faith healers, if not everyone. Difficult to rebute. Facts are given here and facts are clear. I like to see how Randy has risked even his life when facing these scammers. This is the reason why chrches must pay taxes. The economy does not get better by withdrawing money from the poor. The problem can be solved if the money the scammers spend on costly cars and aiplanes and jewels go to the public interest.
