Olympus makes the best user friendly digital voice recorders on the market. My only complaint is that propriety software is necessary to move the files from the recorders to a computer. These recorders work best when you can use a lapel mic. Very high quality sound. Files are recorded in .wav format.

Easy handling, lot's of recording time and surprisingly durable. I like the fact that at high speed playback I can entertain my kids w/ the "chipmonk" thing. Over-all sound quality for a device this small is excellent.
2nd one of these I've owned & have used the other for years. sounds great for it's size, records w/surprising clarity. clips in the pocket, falls easily to hand. Great for work notes & to help me store song ideas as a musician. the software & upload to computer process work quickly & well & the file format is ".wav" so I expect to be able to convert to other formats w/software I already own. I have a newer, fancier, more expensive and supposedly better performing Olympus digital recorder with no pocket clip and, tho it PLAYS mp3 format it only CREATES files in '.wma' [apparently Windows propriatory?] format, which is a hassle from my point of view. I like this model better. - BK
Did not know this was an older unit. Could not use computer to upload recordings. It works fine but just can't save recordings. That's major reason i purchased
