I transferred my personal VHS tapes to digital a while back. I was not impressed with the quality, but wrote that off as the limits of the technology. Then I bought an old JVC recorder for a neighbor and couldn't believe how much better the picture appeared after testing it out on my system. I did a little research and found that JVC made a HR-S(xxxx) series that gets very high marks as a machine to have when transferring tapes. My sense was that the HR-S3900 and higher numbered models in the HR-S series were the place to start.

This unit is perfect for transferring VHS video to DVD. I use it sometimes for several days playing back video's and it works great. Recommend it to any need

I am still running tests on this machine. The color is not pleasing and rewind and forward are terribly noisy - it is a bit concerning. Eject and insert seems to be smooth. Verdict is still out.
