Much to my surprise, while I was surfing through the website for my Internet/Phone/TV provider I realized that I was paying a monthly rental fee for their Internet modem equal to what it would cost me to purchase one on eBay. And the provider offered a Bring Your Own Modem program which would eliminate the monthly charge. Good gracious, I thought just another way that prices escalate and I can control this one. I immediately went on eBay, found the modem I needed and bought it. Yes, it was used, but works perfectly and the modem the cable company was renting to me was also used, so what difference did it make. I actually bought two so I would have a spare in case the first one went bad. Best way I have found to cut my cable bill, other than dropping services Any time I need anything, the first place I look is eBay and usually I will find it.Read full review
Very good DOCSIS 2 cable modem. No problems. Owned this one for 6 years with no issues. The only problem was when DOCSIS 3 cable modems became available. You cannot top out on internet speeds with DOCSIS 2. You need a 3 now to keep up with faster internet connections. The Toshiba PCX2600 is excellent and perfect if you only want a max transfer rate of about 20 mbps. That is the highest my ISP allowed me to purchase with a DOCSIS 2.
Not sure this is of much value, based on one unit which I purchased. The unit was sold as used, but appeared to be new in original packaging. I planned to use it as a spare cable modem; I currently use an Ambit U10C018, which works fine with my Cox Cable Internet service in Santa Barbara. I called Cox support to arrange for the switchover to the Toshiba PCX2600; the PCX2600 acquired signal briefly and was recognized by the Cox technician, but then dropped off and never reacquired signal. I eventually had to revert to the Ambit. Dealing with Cox support on the phone is a fair amount of work; but I guess I need to get some other unit and go through this all again.
