MLB PP 08 is a fun game for all ages. You can spend hours or minutes playing the different games, practices and career modes. The all play feature is nice and it gives all ages a chance to play the game. The game will also work with the classic gamecube controller. There are tons of options and game modes that will keep you busy. On the negative side MLP PP 08 does not have online play. Also when batting all you do is swing the Wii remote. The swinging is not as good as in the Wii Sports which is a shame. If it had better batting and online play I would rate it as excellent.
If you are hardcore baseball, than 2K sports is probably for you. I, for one used to love EA sports baseball games. The graphics and gameplay were more realistic. 2k sports is too boxy and contrived. Since EA quit making MLB baseball games I decided to go with the Power Pros for the Wii. While, very arcadey, it is very entertaining as well. I am more into the arcade-type sports games than the simulations. If you want a game with plenty of features and plays quicky, and is cheap because it's kind of under the radar, this is the baseball game for you.
Listen. What makes a game "good" is not the graphics, or the storyline, or the ingenuity, or anything besides this one thing: Is the game fun to play? If it isn't fun nothing else matters. (I readily grant that these other elements can make a game fun, but they are not the priority in and of themselves. Fun is the priority. Otherwise, why play?) To help you understand what I intend with the word "fun" you should know that I think that Super Mario Kart for the Wii is a HUGE amount of fun. Do we have the same tastes? If so, continue to read. With a basic understanding of my philosophy in general, I now come to MLB Power Pros 2008. The game is fun. As a baseball fan, the game is really, stinkin' fun. I bought the original MLB Power Pros. This is almost identical to it, and it is identical to it in every meaningful way. The only important difference here is updated MLB rosters and player stats, in my mind, enough of a reason to justify the investment. This game series will be a perennial purchase for me. (I went through this same thing with the Raw vs. Smackdown pro-wrestling series, though I'm not a big fan of pro-wrestling. The games were fun. Then they ruined them, and I got bored. I doubt that will happen here as my love of real baseball will keep me interested here.) As a baseball fan, I highly recommend this game as it is fun. If you're one who cares about graphics, etc, then you probably don't resonate with what I'm saying here. But then again, if you're one who cares about graphics what are you doing with a Wii? MLB Power Pros 2008 is campy, with all of the characters appearing as Miis. But the game has depth! It isn't for little kids, too simple and easy to beat to really enjoy. Don't judge this game by its cover. Game-play is easy, and the makers of the game give the power to the people when it comes to deciding how the individual player wants to control things. A variety of controllers can be used in a variety of ways. Again, if you're familiar with the first release of the game in this series then you know what I'm talking about here. The makers of the game kept the main thing the main thing-- they made the game fun. I hope this has been helpful.Read full review
MLB power pros 2008 is overall a pretty good game. it is very fun and easy to pick up. although it has a ton of game modes most of them just do with reading and choice making, and no actual playing that makes me not want to play them. the only acception would be success mode, also it gets kinda repetitive, but its still a fun game and definitely worth buying.
The game is fun and very entertaining with the animated MLB players. I expected the controls to be similar to Wii Sports baseball, but they are not near as cool. You play the whole game just sitting in a chair which defeats the purpose of having a Wii. Overall the game is very fun, but I am very disappointed with the controls. If you do not care about having interactive controls or killer graphics this game is for you. If they would change the controls to mirror Wii sports baseball, it would be an absolute blast.
