  • Perfect bolts. Bad engineering to put threadlocker on them

So, I bought a beater for my daughter who will be driving soon ( OMG moment). It is a 2006 Camry with an automatic transmission. The existing transmission pan bolts were rusted beyond saving, and I wanted to service the transmission. So, I needed new bolts. Now, these bolts are OEM Toyota transmission pan bolts. I receive them, and notice something on the threads. I THOUGHT it was anti-seize lube. But it was THREAD LOCKER !!!! I was dumbfounded. Why in the world would Toyota put threadlocker on transmission pan bolts ? I've been a mechanic for 50 yrs., and have never seen this before on transmission bolts. The transmission case is aluminum. Do you know what will happen if I installed those bolts into that aluminum case, then tried to remove them again for service ? It would take the threads right out of the transmission case ! .... So, I took every bolt. Put them in a vice, and wire wheeled off the threadlocker. Problem solved. I don't know which Toyota engineer came up with this idiotic idea, but he should be FIRED !!!!
