This is a collection I've been looking forward to for years in a way. I didn't grow up in the 60's or 70's ( I didn't even exist) but Filmation was very much a staple of my childhood. I was fortunate enough to watch these old superhero shows (Superman, Aquaman, Batman, etc and my favorite, Superboy) on VHS and on stations like USA when they aired. I rediscovered them as a teenaged college student a few years back and have been eager to track them down since. What was available online was of very poor quality and it has been shown frequently on Boomerang but I still wanted to see them unedited and in the best possible quality. And that's exactly what Warner Bros. released, a collection of shorts that were unedited, included all of the original intros, and looked and sounded spectacular. The feature on Lou Scheimer was informative, well done and a must see for animation buffs. There's one glaring error on this disc( it's really not that big a deal); somehow pictures of Birdman (of Hanna Barbera fame) show up on the menu instead of Hawkman. It's pretty funny really. I love Birdman anyway so I can't say it took detracted anything from my entertainment. I haven't been fortunate enough to view the previous Superman and Aquaman collections but after seeing how well this was done, I'll definitely get them the first chance that comes my way. I just hope Warner Bros. can create a Superboy collection before this decade is over.Read full review
Great fun vintage cartoons. These cartoons were the first time Green Lantern, the Flash, Hawkman, the Atom and the Teen Titans appeared outside of the comic books. These cartoons are the only time the Flash, Hawkman and the Atom have been given their own solo animated episodes. It's great to see these lesser know superheroes being given the spotlight for a change. Green Lantern, the Flash, Hawkman, the Atom also team up with Superman as the Justice League of America for the first time outside of the comic books. Impressive animation, especially for a low budget. The character designs are realistic and comic book accurate. Gerald Mohr voiced Green Lantern, Cliff Owens voiced the Flash, Vic Perrin voiced Hawkman, Pat Harrington, Jr. voiced the Atom, Julie Bennett voiced Wonder Girl, Pat Harrington, Jr. voiced Speedy, Tommy Cook voiced Kid Flash and Bud Collyer voiced Superman. Bud Collyer had voiced Superman on the Adventures of Superman radio show (1940-1951) and the Superman cartoons by Fleischer Studios/Famous Studios (1941-1943)! Ted Knight (Mary Tyler Moore Show (1970-1977)/Caddyshack (1980)) was the announcer/narrator and voiced many of the villains.Read full review
Well,...I had past on buying this because I wasn't sure as to what it truthfully was: The 18-Special Episodes that ran from 1967-68, as part of The Superman Aquaman Hour of Adventure. The contents is Excellent: Wonderful FILMATION 2-D Bright Color animation, with no ridiculous shadows under everything: Noses, Chins, the Belly of a Dog....it's a Cartoon....you don't need but 2-D & Bright Colors! The problem, and the reason that I past on it before...is they used modern-day 3-D Horseshit artwork for the outside packaging. They even have BIRDMAN on some of the menu stills, and he ain't even on the episodes. So, YES, I'm telling you to buy it, but the outside artwork is deceiving. What kind of Boobs do they have working at Time-Warner?
