Fu'un Ken is a completely new fighting art combining karate and the skills of using a boomerang. Hayate, the master of Fu'un Ken, has used this fighting art to defeat many opponents. But now a great challenge awaits him. He must summon every bit of his skill to defeat King Lion. Savage Reign is a weapons-oriented fighting game with a unique twist -- every stage has an upper and lower level. Characters can switch between the two levels at any time and can also attack across levels. Some of the stages have upper levels with hazards. One has a floor section that opens and closes periodically, for example. Characters that are on that section when it opens will fall to the ground level and take some damage. Another stage has cars that can hit characters for damage. There are ten characters to choose from, each armed with a weapon, ranging from a boomerang to a bouncy ball. Once a character is chosen, players must defeat all the other characters to prove themselves worthy to fight King Lion and then defeat the boss himself. Players can perform light punches and kicks by tapping the A and B buttons, and can perform strong punches and kicks by holding the buttons. Characters can use their weapons to attack, or throw them for ranged attacks. But if characters throw their weapons, they won't be able to use them again for a few seconds.
