Making a splash on the scene in 2006, V for Vendetta may not cater to any one set of movie-goers, but seems to fit into niche of its own. Just as George Orwell's novel "1984" attempted to paint a portrait of our own future, this film seems to have done so with believability and impact. The Wachowski Brothers wrote the screenplay and can greatly be recognized with the high brow sci-fi "Matrix Trilogy" which gave them the credibility to do just about anything they want in film. The story-line, although complex at times, seems to always come together and present the future through the eyes a madman and his semi-captor cohert Evey (Natalie Portman), a working class young lady, that has as many high ideals as most, but tries to comprehend V (Hugo Weaving), who hides his identity behind the mask of a madman. Little do we know that V was seeking vengeance upon the leaders of the now nation lead by the Grand Prime Minister of Britian played by John Hurt. The tension that develops as our bold and charismatic freedom fighter V schemes and plot to get payback from the people that scarred him for life. This film has many different fight scenes with confusing and unexpected cat and mouse play between V and the so-called establishment that wish to snuff him out. The mailing of the masks to various places even makes it harder to stop him since everyone wants to mimic his progress. The exactness and timing of certain events in this film make it a real knuckle chewer. Natalie Portman delivers an astounding range of emotional power in this film and helps the film along by revealing a side to Evey that we don't see at the beginning. I give this a 5/5 for action, intrigue, cleverness, and forcing us to find no middle ground between the opposing views that this film screams for us to do. I had missed this film when first released and having recently streamed it I just had to buy the disc. The BluRay is excellent. I only wish there were far more Special Features (such as a full commentary track). Regarding the content of the film, the fictional Near Future presented is a chilling view of how an increasingly totalitarian administration "could" function if allowed to take over a Democracy. More timely than ever with current political scare tactics and misinformation being promoted on at least one US TV News platform and throughout too much of Social Media. The frightening threats of "The Voice of London" (the State News spokesman) sounds all too familiar and his continued warnings of society lapsing into pure anarchy and lawlessness at the hands of minorities if the Police State is not blindly accepted by citizens as the new norm now rings all too close to home.Read full review

A spell bounding story about one man's quest for revenge in the hopes of freeing his nation from the grip of tyranny. A nation who's power hungry politicians devise a scrupulous plan to gain total control over it, and in it's wake one man who was used as a human guinea pig to help in the plot to control the nation, takes it upon himself to avenge the horrific atrocities committed against him and his country. V for Vendetta is one of the best movies ever made in my opinion...I'm no critic but have seen a good share of movies and if you are bored with the fast food, cliche riddled, shallow, uncreative poor excuse for films that the industry has pumped out as of late, than this is a movie you will surely enjoy. The story that hatches comes together in an incredibly well executed manner in which a detective for the power hungry governemt explores it's countries past in hoping to learn more of who "V", a terrorist in the eyes of his government, is and how and why he is able to infiltrate the hearts and minds of a people once free and now controlled. The writing is exquisite as is the acting and directing in this film...I'm a huge fan of films with characters that develop along with the story line and this does just that. All characters but especially the two lead characters evolve as the movie progresses having both short comings and triumphs along the way which allows you to connect with both of them in their own way. I can't recommend this movie enough, I LOVE IT, have watched it several times and will continue to watch it because it seems some new detail is always discovered every time I watch it which keeps it fresh and entertaining!!! BUY IT, WATCH IT, LOVE IT then repeat the last two steps over and over again!!!Read full review
V for Vendetta is more than another comic book movie (its not a comic book, its a graphic novel!). This film prompts one to self-reflect; What are you doing with your life? Where are you headed? Where are we headed? Think. Break out of the monotonous dream and begin to live. How much power lies in a man(woman)? It is filled with other lesser questions like how hot can Natalie Portman possibly be and how awesome is Hugo Weaving. I assure you these will be answered. Deviating somewhat from Alan Moore's graphic novel, the bulk remians intact and, for me, the film tightened the weaving and made more sense. An awesome film becuase it fills all of the mature criteria wonderfully, those being: Hot Chick Awesome Action/Visuals Intelligent-thinker Pimp lead character Highly recommened, Enjoy!Read full review
V for Vendetta is an excellent film about society and government. It shows that even if the government is all powerful and controlling, it's people still have the right to stand and make a change. The action is top notch also. From Andy and Larry Wachowski(The Matrix Trilogy), comes another sci-fi classic. Starring Natalie Portman(Star Wars, Garden State), Hugo Weaving(Lord of the Rings, Matrix), and John Hurt(Indiana Jones, Alien). The acting, directing, and screenplay all shine in this film! The picture and Sound quality are both top notch in V for Vendetta. Blu-ray allows the film to be shown as intended, and here fine detail and contrast prove to show every action scene for what they are really worth. Hear subtle sounds like never before. The soundtrack is very engrossing and stand out in every scene! Film 9/10. Picture Quality 9/10. Sound Quality 10/10. A must own on Blu!Read full review
