GM OEM Side Window Deflectors (vent shades)
The Side Window Deflectors (vent shades) do carry a GM part number, but are manufactured by Lund. GM packages theirs by laying one on top of the other, then shrink wrapping them. This causes unsightly scuffs where the surfaces rub together. I used toothpaste to try and polish out the scratches and scuffs. It looked better when completed, but not good enough.
If you purchase the Lund side window deflectors (packaged by Lund) they come individually arranged and shrink wrapped so there is no possibility of their rubbing against each other. I saw them at a truck accessory outlet and the price was the same, and have seen them elsewhere online, often less than the GM OEM option.
I am concerned that these units fit inside the window channel to the felt stripping of the window channel. Not sure how these are going to hold up for the long haul. I had to place paper wedges between the glass and deflectors to hold help shape them when first attached. The center portion of the shade bowed in against the glass when first installed. The manufacturer's instruction recommend leaving the windows closed for 72 hours in warm temperature. The paper wedges seemed to work. Now that the deflectors have set for three days in the sun, their shape held. But, I also had the luxury of not driving the truck. There is no way the wedges would have been successful if I had driven the truck while the window deflectors "cured".
This is a follow-up: Had them on my truck for over a year now. They did not hold there shape. Center of deflector is bowed in and touching the glass. Heat is not an issue because vehicle is always parked inside sheltered environment. Save your money and buy someone else's product. If you pay to expect the best, these are not the ones for you!
