About this product

Product Information

In the 1920s, eccentric author and entrepreneur Aleister Dharke, writer of gothic tales of terror, rebuilt the rundown and dilapidated Dharke Manor, originally constructed in 1876. The mansion was renovated and used as a research and development facility by Dharke Electronics after the old man died. As time passed, the company not only kept up with the advent of the computer but developed advanced projects that pushed the envelope of modern computer design applications as well.

What better place to test the robotic servants, environmental controls, and waste recycling capabilities developed over the years than in Dharke Manor? Complete automated home management became the goal of the researchers -- work went well for awhile but in the 1990s losses far exceeded perceived benefits and the decision was made to shut down many of the R&D projects and sell Dharke Manor cheaply in an effort to cut losses. Woe be to the unsuspecting buyer who might sign the ironclad, CYA contract developed by the Dharke lawyers.

Enter Buster Everman. Through a surprising chain of events, Buster wins the state lottery and eagerly jumps at the chance to buy the mansion. By coincidence, he has worked for Dharke Electronics for years as a minor-level accounting clerk, virtually unnoticed by the heavy hitters as the time tolled on. Without the slightest idea that the mansion is loaded with systems both bizarre and totally dependent on computer management, Buster camps out in his new mansion on New Year's Eve, 1999. What better way to welcome in the year 2000!

Well, it seemed a good idea at the time. Seems as if the house is not Y2K compliant, a fact of which Buster is totally ignorant. Welcome to microchip hell! It's your job to help Buster escape from the madness with the help of his girlfriend Candace. Fortunately she knew of the problem and developed an upgrade to bring the mansion's systems in line for the new year -- only problem is she's has now disappeared and the house has locked Buster in his room for "protection."

Y2K is a third-person adventure designed in the tradition of a locked-room (in this case, locked house) mystery. The interface is point-and-click with a "smart" cursor used in conjunction with hotspots as you explore the environment. Only you can help Buster save his house, his girlfriend and his very own sanity -- but does it stop there? Enter Y2K and find out.
