...Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters is truly a metalhead at heart, he shows a lot of respect for his old gods by writing and performing songs with more than a dozen of the loudest men to have stood by a mike thru the 80's...there's no question he had a blast behind the drum kit playing the songs on this CD...that said, they're not as strong as what we heard thru the 80's...Lemmy from Motorhead is the notable exception to this, and Dave himself, in the liner notes, calls "Shake Your Blood" the 'cornerstone' of the collection, and it absolutely is the best tune on the album, more than capable of pinning your ears back at will, with effortless glee...there are songs sung by everyone from Cronos of Venom to King Diamond Mercyful Fate and back again, a mess of talented artists out in a good show, but Lemmy kicks them all to the curb, and shows them all why he's the only one of the lot that's still rockin'it'out on a daily basis...Conclusion? a solid, decent effort, that admittedly shows why it didn't lead to a second collection...buy it for Lemmy's song, and consider the rest a solid bonus...Read full review
For those of you who haven't heard, you should buy this album! Probot is a collection of songs recorded by different vocalists from early metal and hardcore bands. The majority of the album is written by Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters, Nirvana) with instrumentation by Dave Grohl as well (and all instruments are also played by Dave). This album will effectively take you on a trip through various sounds and moods but nevertheless this album is heavy rock, and it's good. As alluded to by Grohl himself in the liner notes, this album attempts to acheive a masterful use of "the riff" which, as you will realize, the album does to near perfection. Heavy, straightforward guitar as well as Grohl's signature drumming style abound in this album.
