The game is a turn-based, strategic level simulation of WW2 in Europe. It does a fairly good job of recreating the strategic problems faced by the various contenders and simulating the options available to them. The way naval forces are handled is particularly good. Most similar games, whether table-top or computer, tend to neglect the importance of navies in maintaining supply and trade routes. R&D and alliances are handled well, though actual diplomacy is notional, handled by increasing or decreasing odds relative to battlefield performance. The only thing that's really missing is the ability to transfer resources between allies. A critical strategic activity was the transfer of resources to Russia (by the UK and US) and from the US to the UK. The game does not have a mechanism to simulate it. This greatly simplifies the problem facing the Germans when they attack east and makes the defeat of Russia much more likely in the game. Battlefront has since redone the game and Strategic Command II is now available. Haven't had a chance to play the new one, but this is good enough for me for now.Read full review
