Ronnie Jame Dio was at the top of his game in 1986 when this concert was filmed. The concert shown takes place at the Philadelphia Spectrum, with Craig Goldy on lead guitar, Vinny Appice on drums, Jimmy Bain on Bass, and Claude Schnell on keyboards. I saw this concert live at the LA Forum, and the DVD comes close to capturing the excitement of the show. It's not Dio's best concert, but it is really good, a solid 4 out of 5. It features a 12 song show plus an interview with Ronnie James Dio and Craig Goldy. The show itself features a 20 foot fire breathing dragon along with he fog, light show, pyrotechnics, etc. the music and vidio is a top notch production for the time it was recorded. No Dolby or 5.1 surround on the DVD. This is a great piece of heavy metal history, a must own for fans of eighties hard rock, and an entertaining rock and roll stage show by any measure.Read full review
Ronnie James Dio captures your heart and soul with his magical stage presence and theatrics with a fire-breathing dragon and his long sword clashing with the wings of the dragon! My favorite songs are Sacred Heart and Rock-N-Roll Children. This concert is awesome! For the simple fact Craig Goldy plays a shredding guitar solo on his white Warlock B.C. Rich and fights with a giant mechanical spider onstage, shooting a laser out of the end of his guitar and it destroys the spider, which falls down upon the stage! I would give this concert DVD Top 20 rating and highly recommend fans to add it to their Dio collection! Blaze C. Moore

It is a really incredible show from 1981 or 1982 when metal was starting to gain momentum. A lot of bells and whistles. Lasers, a gaint dragon, a top notch performance. There are also some real good interviews with Dio and one of his band mates. Overall one of the best concert footage of this era.
Great video production, great tunes from one of the true great hard rock voices. Lots of stage props, state-of-the-art techno/pyro, but enhancing the music, not disguising it. Very good, but "Special From The Spectrum' I think is still this band's best peformance caught on film.
