A good movie based on a true story. Not presented smoothly or comprehensively, so it's a little hard to follow at points. Tommy Lee Jones has matured considerably as an actor since this movie was made, and would probably have given a better performance today. Yuri Nosenko is a KGB plant who tries to convince the CIA that he simply wants to defect to the West and help the U.S. by telling Russian secrets. Jones is a CIA agent determined to expose Nosenko for the KGB agent of desinformatzia he really is. The CIA grills him relentlessly for 2 years until finally everyone except Jones are convinced that he is sincere... except he's NOT! In the end, Jones fails to convince his superiors to be suspicious of Nosenko and other KGB plants in American government, and Nosenko actually becomes a lecturer for the CIA. Jones, an exhausted man, retires to Rome, where he feels more comfortable than in the U.S. If you enjoy espionage movies, or are a student of US/Russian relationships during the Cold War, this film is a must-see for you. But it's kind of a plodder: you plod through the story without any thrilling points of entertainment (which, come to think of it, probably makes it more true-to-life than it seems). This is an excellent dvd based on a true story; I believe, it shows that there are traitors in our secutity services. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to listen to the facts presented , and not question, the competency- let alone loyalty- of those in high positions of authority. Buy the dvd and learn from it !
I bought this DVD because I saw it once before, and I thought this was a chilling story that is based on true events. I like Tommy Lee Jones as an actor and I also like a good spy story. This story is also set around the Kennedy Assassination.
