We were taking a family trip to Jim Thorpe PA to research the "Molly Maguires". The movie was recommended by a friend and we are glad we bought it. It was very informational. We had to turn the Subtitles on because their accents were very thick. We watched the movie the night before we left and then visited the "spots" in the movie. The movie was actually filmed in Eckley PA and the "hanging" scene was filmed in the actual prison the hangings took place. (You can take tours of that Jail in Jim Thorpe). They modified the actual storyline in the movie to make it more "marketable", but for the most part it was an accurate portrayl. It was great to see a young Sean Connery, too.
This was of particular interest to me since I was born and raised in Shenandoah, PA, the heart of the hard coal region. I visited Eckley when the movie was being filmed. I am Irish and my great grandfather, grandfather, and father were all miners in and around Shenandoah where one of the scenes in the movie takes place.

If you want to see a piece of Penna history this movie is a must. Paramount came into Penna. and found one of the last remaining intact coal villages Eckley PA which is now a Penna Historial treasure. All the studio had to do was to build a coal breaker. This snap shot into the life of Irish immigrant miners is something that we should always be remembered. Vist Eckley PA you will be amazed.

I enjoyed the movie "The Mollie Maguires" It is a startling look at how the miners lived in the Pennsylvania coal mines in the late 1800s. We recently visited the town of Jim Thorpe, PA (formerly Mauch Chunk), the town where the trial and prison in the movie actually happened. We had taken the prison tour and heard the story of the Molly Maguires. While some things on the tour and in the movie differed slightly there is no doubt the life of a miner was difficult on a level that is unlikely to be truly understood today.
A good film worth seeing the injustice working people have endured by the owners who feel they have a right to own more than others.

Historically not accurate. The life of a miner and family was VERY VERY poor. This was when unions were needed.

The story is a true representation of the time and place. Well done, with great actors. Product is in good condition.

Not so great acting, but thankful they did a movie about the incredible injustice done to these Mine Workers. It's no wonder Unions were formed. The mine owners were incredibly inhumane.
