I used to play the original with my daughter. We would each take control for 20 minutes each. So this is a great family game for children to adults . I recently bought #2 It feels the same to me as #1 and you get the changes between versions. There is so much to keep a person busy. On top of the goals the game sets for you , you can establish your own goals. I have stayed with the same park 25 years , and I may see how far I can go. While I would not categorize this game as educational , it showed my daughter that there are consequences to all actions and inaction. There is also experience in money handling and debt. The $8 I paid makes it a great bargain
Now that RCT1 is almost gone, they released all the expansions for RCT2! for 20$. Nice deal.. I love getting the packs.. This game, is more kind of joined with six flags. It has some rides and parks from there.. This pack has hundreds of rides and attractions... with more than 45 scenarios of course... you have LOTS of new scenery and more customaizable things... make a dinosaur park.. make a grand canyon or china park! Too cool! It even comes with a free preview of RCT3 and a cool ad for it. Unlike the first pack, all 3 games are on 1 CD... which can be a good thing.. If you liked the first game, you'll like this one too! :) ~Cait~
Both the best and the worst thing you can say about RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 is that it is nearly identical to its predecessor. It's both a blessing and a curse, because the millions of fans of the original and its two expansion packs will no doubt be happy to receive more of the same park-building fun but crestfallen over how few changes have been made by developer Chris Sawyer. Though newcomers will likely find the sequel enjoyable for the simple, engaging fun that it shares with the original game, if you were already a fan of RollerCoaster Tycoon, you'll probably have a hard time believing that you waited so long for what the sequel has to offer: the same old graphics, the same old rides, and the same old objectives.
I am a fan of the original RCT and love all the scenarios oun it and its exoansions. When RCT2 came out, I saw it was not the best game in the world. First I want to start with the ups :) The game has a whole bunch of new roller coaster that are fun to build. You get tons of more songs to put on your rides. The scenery has a lot of options to choose from and last they have roller coaster designer and scenario designer. Now the downs. You get basically no parks (10-20)The theme is Six Flags, tehy could have been more creative and done like Disneyland or mabye not even have a theme. If your a beginner, they only have 3 beginner parks, not the best starting game in the world. Some of the themes are lame, the Six Flags scenery is signs and lame stuff. They cancled the most original roller coaster, the plain steel coaster and replaced it with the looping coaster. This is an OK game, I would recamend to original version to all beginners and RCT fans. Thanks for reading my review. :)Read full review
Easy to get addicted to a game like RCT2. Limitations from the first RCT are essentially removed and if just designing coasters is your thing, you can do that. Plenty of challening scenerios keep this game fresh long after you've begun playing it. The RCT franchise has been a great series and this IMO is the best so far. Great for anyone of any age who likes thrills, simulations, and doesn't want to be bogged down with in-game financial decisions. Dollar for dollar, you simply cannot beat this game for value.
