SynopsisIt was the BFG-the Big Friendly Giant-who kidnaps Sophie from her bed in the orphanage and takes her back to Giantland with him lest she tell everyone that she has seen a giant. There she meets nine other Giants, Fleshlumpeater, Bonecrusher, Gizzardgulper, Bloodbottler-a whole beastly crew-all much bigger than the BFG, and much, much meaner. Every night the BFG catches dreams in a long-handled net and blows the good ones into little children's minds as they sleep, while the other Giants are busy racing off to various parts of the world to eat "human beans." How the BFG and Sophie conspire to put an end to the loathsome activities of the other Giants is a marvelously original and funny story, told by one of the best-known, best-loved writers for children, Roald Dahl. Quentin Blake's delightful black-and-white line drawings depict all the humor and action of Dahl's wonderful tale. Book jacket., "Well, first of all, " said the BFG, "human beans is not really believing in giants, is they? Human beans is not thinking we exist." Sophie discovers that giants not only exist, but that there are a great many of them who like to guzzle and swallomp nice little chiddlers. But not the Big Friendly Giant. He and Sophie cook up an ingenious plot to free the world of troggle-humping -- forever.

  • Great chapter book for 1st graders

I bought this for my Grandaughter after seeing the movie with her. She loved it so much, she wanted the book. This book is perfect for beginning readers, it has great illustrations, and the chapters are short for the most part. She loves it as much as the movie. Great way to encourage reading together.

  • Like finding an old friend.

Read this and all of Dahl's books years ago, now reread it for the grandchildren. Felt like revisiting a good friend you had lost touch with: my own witching hour memories were revisited, my father saved me every time. Nightmares with good memories are a good thing.

  • Great story for all ages

I thoroughly enjoyed the book and pictures. It was fun and I felt all ages would enjoy it. I got a copy for my sister to read to her grandchildren. I can't wait to see the movie. Since the music will be by John Williams it will be great too.

  • We purchased it to introduce a 5 year old child to a delightful story.

We felt that the storybook version would be an excellent precursor to the movie. The scary giants would not seem so scary.

  • This is a great book and hardcover

My kids love when I read this book to them and I needed a hardcover version because let's face it, kids destroy paperbacks. Was so happy to finally find one on ebay when no one else had it.
