  • nancy drew strikes again

as with all the original text nancy drew books this is an interesting and fun read. in keeping with the natural of episodic books some are better or worse than others but they maintain a good standard. as to "staircase" specifically I like for its mood and atmosphere. viewed objectively, it is perhaps a bit slow moving, but it's noteworthy for nancy's father, carson drew, being involved somewhat more than just as nancy's bankroller and free lawyer. because of it's slow pacing it mightn't be the best first book for a very young reader, but for those who can appreciate its atmosphere it's very enjoyable. as an aside, for those who may not know, nancy drew books 1-34 were originally written with 25 chapters and rather formal style of writing. in the fifties the books were shortened to 20 chapters with the text simplified and the originals were rewritten in the same way. though there were a few of the originals with the negative stereotypes of their day (30s-early 50s) the original are far superior and are far and away more recommended.

  • Original and best

Most of the juvenile series books (such as Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys) were massively revised, starting in 1959, both to simplify the vocabulary and syntax ("dumbing down") and to eliminate any reference that would be considered offensive (e.g., villains were no longer swarthy). The rest was a bland Soviet-style story. Applewood resurrected the originals. Try them out and see if you do not find them superior. They are all now out of print and the project ended before the last titles were printed, but used copies are still readily available.

Wonderful story from the 1930s. A different time with no electricity in the house! No cell phones or computers to distract.

  • The original Nancy Drew!

This is a replica of the original book from 1930 before it was rewritten in the late '50s. It's a fascinating view into our cultural heritage (the good and the bad), and a great escape into yesteryear!

  • Original text is worth read!

For good or for bad a view into our past is worth the read vs the edited versions.
