The Joshua album is truely a classic that holds up over time. The reissue (Deluxe Edition) [Limited] [CD & DVD] is a guilty pleasure. As a U2 fan, I had the album, and most of the songs on the bonus disc that were issued as b-sides on singles, or on other compilation albums. The two unleased songs, were OK, but unreleased 20 years ago because they weren't great. I enjoy hearing them just to hear elements that found there way into other songs. You may recognize a line of lyrics that has the same rhyming scheme, or the same thought, but using different words. The melodies and mix of the instruments on the extra songs definately sound like U2 from that period of time. The DVD and the Book, are the reason I paid (again) for the album set. The book has insight into how and why the albums was put together. The videos of songs were OK. The concert is simply great. A simply outside setting in the French countryside, the playing at their best. The stage is very simple compared to their later Achtung/Pop/Vertigo multimedia extravaganza tours. I love those too, but this is a nice refresher. It is even simpler, and more straight for forward than, the Rattle and Hum concert movie, inwhich they play most of the same songs. If you only know U2 from 1990 on, you need to see this footage of U2 at their peak, before going to the next level.Read full review
U2 has been my all-time favorite band for 24 yrs, so I was excited that they were re-mastering some of their early CD's. This boxed set is really nice, with the picture cards and book, CD's & DVD, & the design of the whole set. With the book I learned some things about U2 & the Joshua Tree songs that I didn't know before. The DVD is really great with lots of different footage: videos, & concert & documentary. The B-sides CD was really cool, with some songs I have never heard! I have all of their CD's including some of their B-sides, but I knew there were some songs somewhere out there I'd never heard. The only disappointment is that I really didn't hear much of a difference with the re-mastered Joshua Tree CD. Maybe I need better equipment or maybe I know what exactly to listen for. Maybe there's just so much that can be done! But when the other early CD's get re-mastered I will still definitely get them! In summary, for any U2 fan, it's definitely worth it!Read full review
Not only does this 3-disc box set contain a remastered copy of the original record, but a separate CD of bonus cuts and a DVD of a 1987 (or possibly 1988) live Joshua Tree show from Paris, as well as a couple of videos and a documentary about U2 in the USA. The set also contains a book and a package of photo outtakes from the album cover. If you're a fan, I can't recommend this highly enough, so long as the seller isn't asking a ridiculous price. I paid $30 for an excellent copy, including S&H, and to me it's well worth that.

Like all of these reissued albums, it extras are nice, but nothing special. If they were really any good they would have made it on the original release.

The Joshua Tree has always been in my top 20 of all time great rock and roll records. This special Deluxe Edition is without a doubt the version for serious fans and collectors of U2 to own. The Deluxe Edition contains two CD's, a Joshua Tree Tour Concert DVD, a booklet with essays and lyrics, and half a dozen photo cards with pictures from that era. CD #1 contains the remastered Joshua Tree album in it's original form, including artwork. CD #2 is a real treasure, consisting of all the non-album b-sides and assorted outtakes issued here the first time. What's most notable is the very high quality of the non-album tracks, especially 'Spanish Eyes' and 'Silver And Gold'. Indeed, it could be argued that many of these extra tracks might have been better choices for the album than those that were selected. Overall, CD #2 is terrific, and makes a great stand alone album in it's own right. The true highlight, for me anyway, is the concert DVD of U2 performing in Paris in July 1987 during the Joshua Tree Tour. Both the sound and picture quality are excellent, and it was a great performance by the band themselves. This is probably the best concert footage of U2 during that part of their career, and far more satisfying than the 'Rattle And Hum' documetary. [It's worth noting that the camera work of the concert is excellent and enjoyable to watch, with none of the fast edit jump-cuts every two seconds that renders most concert films, including U2's later concert videos, distracting, annoying, and ultimately unwatchable.] I'd give this Deluxe Edition of The Joshua Tree a 9.5 out of ten for sound and video quality, packaging, attention to detail, and overall value. Highly recommended to both fans and collectors alike. M.Behuniak May 05,2009Read full review
If you’re a U2 fan you’ll enjoy this. The Live from Paris DVD is awesome. The 9 minute version of With or Without is great. Bono could really let loose and sing back then.

Worth the cost, even if already owned and paying a premium on the secondary market. The remastering sonically shines; even non-audphiles will hear a difference (especially with headphones). Add to that the bonus material that includes a full concert from when the boys were riding the wave when the album first came out and you have a stellar package. Highly recommended.

I agree: Joshua Tree is the best album U2 has done. But this package (remastCD+bonusCD+bonusDVD) adds value to a great album. The remastering lifts the recording in my opinion, but we can all agree or disagree on that one. The extra tracks, the live DVD, the bonus videos... They cost me more, but worth every cent. I love U2, so I will pay, but this is great stuff. On the bonus disc are many tracks that I'd only heard live or on greatest hits. If you *love* U2 and you can get a copy of this, do it. If you enjoy U2 and haven't got their Joshua Tree album, just get the album... you're missing out.
