Inexpensive is not enough for a product to be a bargain. There are plenty 'cheap' copier/scanners/printers out there. The HP C4180 is a true bargain, because not only is it inexpensive, it works great. When I bought a new PC this summer, it caused a need for a new scanner, as my old HP was not supported beyond Windows 98, despite HP having an upgraded driver for it. It scans with amazing clarity, and with great speed. The scans are easy to process, using either the PC or the controls on the scanner. All very easy to use. I scanned every photo I own, for backup on disc, and the C4180 made it an easy process. For printing, it is also pretty fast. It prints a 4x6 photo in as fast as 25 seconds and prints documents at 30 ppm in black and 24 ppm in color. You can also print photos with or without a PC using the 2.4 inch display and camera memory card. It makes printing photos really easy, with a special cartridge to keep prints aligned as they go through the printer. It retailed at $149.99, but I got it on sale at $124.99, and have seen them on sale as low as $84 and on Ebay around the same price. HP has new models in stores now, so I would recommend searching for a price of $99 or less, even though I would still be happy even if I had paid the $149.99. The only drawback I have found was there may not be a sufficient tray to hold a lot of paper after printing. It isnt a big issue for me, I never print more than 5 or ten at a time.Read full review
Was excellent buy but did not have power cord....contacted HP to buy cord and upgraded to the 4780 which does excellent work.... Have a Canon PIXMA 300 but it irritates me because it has a ritual of bells and whistles....takes a half minute before it is ready to print....gave it to my wife....who seldom uses the printer but doesn't mind the wait... The 4780 loads from the front and the quality of pictures is excellent...is also wireless,,,although I don't use that feature for security reasons...
I really love this printer. However, it is not compatible with my type of Windows Vista. Its says on the side of the box that it is compatible, but it does not specify which type of Windows Vista. I have Windows Vista Basic, so I had to switch back to Windows XP. If I would have known this, I would not have bought this product. But the printer is great, and it is nice looking too. Not many things are compatible with Windows Vista yet, so I didn't have much of an option. Maybe one day when I upgrade my Windows Vista I will be able to get it back, but in the meantime, I enjoy my printer. Also, I save about $50 from buying this printer on e-bay instead of in the store!
I have had this exact printer for 2 years now. One broke so I replaced it. I love these printers. They do everything for me. Prints pictures with quality rate, is fast, just all around great. The biggest thing is it only has 2 ink cartridges. Black and Color, how cool is that. Cost effective and efficient.
There are several good reasons why I decided to purchase the HP C4180 printer instead of one of the newer models (and in some models less expensive). Don't be fooled by these 'inexpensive' printers. They may seems to be a fantastic deal...until you run out of ink and have to buy a replacement. That 'inexpensive' printer will cost you a fortune! HP is smart. They make their money by overcharging on their smaller and smaller inkjet cartridges. The newer cartridges are difficult at best to refill. That is the biggest reason I stuck with the C4180. It uses the HP95 TriColor Cartriges (7 ml), the HP 97 TriColor Cartridges (11 ml) and the HP 98 Black Cartridge (11 ml). These cartridges are the easiest to refill and saves me a lot of money. Of course, there is ink and there is ink. Not all the same and not all the same quality. I've tried several different brands of ink and was never very happy with the results until I dicovered the Stratitec brand of inks. They are far superior to any that I have used. They sell their inks in kits and in individual bottles of different sizes. You would be surprised how affordable their products are and how easy to use. Another reason for going again with the C4180 (this second one was for my wife) is the print quality. By far, the best quality printing of all the HP printers I have owned in the past. I have used nothing but HP printers and computers for the past 12 years. If you have lots of money and don't mind being overcharged for printer ink, then go with the newer less expensive models. But, if you value your hard earned money and want the most for your money, then find a HP C4180 printer...their are several listed on eBay. I got mine on eBay and it was about $90.00 including the shipping. Unfortunately, it comes with trial size ink cartridges that may last a month. So, buy a HP98 and a HP97 (or HP95) on eBay. I did initially and paid paid $8.50 to $12.00. Get fresh ones that have not expired...or expired just recently. Older expirations cartridges may have the ink dried up. Interested in the replacement ink? Just do a Google search for Stratitec. They will direct you to the website that handles retail sales. You won't be sorry! They have ink for Epson and others as well. So, to wrap it up..... The reason I bought another C4180 Printer 1. Refillable Ink Cartridges 2. Excellent quality color printing. 3. Special tray for printing 4 X 6 photos 4. Ease of use and dependability 5. Best dang printer I've ever used....fast 30 ppm black. Good luck!Read full review
